Description

110.. 8783307. PATENTED FEB. 11. 1908.
A. CAIRNS. DOOR CHECK.
, APPLICATION FILED NOV.4. 1907.
Jijzzesses i Invenaf:
ALEXANDER CAIRNS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
DOOR-CHECK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed November 4:. 1907. Serial No. 400.713.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER CAIRNs, a resident of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Door-Check, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of thisinvention, is to produce an article of simple and cheap construction, that cannot be detached from the opened. door, in opposition to the wishes of the occupant of the room, by an individual on the outside reaching through the opening.
This invention relates to means for checking doors in a partially opened position, in which a horizontally operated chain terminating in a slip loop is used, in connection with a knob and door casing. I
Reference is to he had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my door check in an unused position, and Fig. 2 is a detailed perspective View on a larger scale.
For the purpose of checking doors in the improved manner embodied in my invention, a sleeve l Fig. 2 is provided with a lug 2 and hole 3, to which chain 4 is fastened and on which it is free to move, forming thereby the slip loop 5 onthe inside of knob 6, around knob shank 7, which in conjunction with screw eye 8, effectually checks the door in a manner that does not permit of it being readily detached from the outside.
It will lie evident that this novel adjustable loop, accommodates itself toand be comes tighter and more secure from sudden pushing on the exterior, and that it cannot lie removed from the knob while there is tension on the chain. In this respect it differs from door checks having fixed loops, operated in a similar manner and is what I claim as new and useful.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I The combination in a door check, of a chain 4. having a slip loop 5, with a sleeve 1, having a longitudinal bore, connected to the door casing and knob, as set forth.
ALEXANDER CAIRNS.
