A. HAUCK.
DOOR STOP.
No. 475,686. Patented May 24, 189.2.v
UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFCE.
ALBERT HAUCK, OF JEWETT, OHIO.
DOOR-STO P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,686, dated May 24, 1892.
Application led October 15, 1891. Serial No.408,789. (No model.)
To LZ/Z whom z5 may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT HAUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jewett, in the county of Harrison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful `Iniprovements in a Combined Door Stop and Check; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combined door check, stop, and lock.
The object of the invention is to provide in a single simple structure a combination of elements for efficiently and conveniently effecting the desired results.
The improvement consists of the novel features and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts,whicl1 will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown inthe annexed drawings, in which- Figurel is a perspective view of the invention, showing its application. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the device. Fig. 3 is adetail side view of the upper end ofthe case, showing the inclined end for holding the doorcheck in position and the doorstop clear of the door.
The sheath or casing A is open at each end and is provided with lateral wings a, which are apertnred to receive the fastening-scrcws by means of which the device is secured to the door. The bore of the sheath is reduced at its upper end to receive the shank b of the stop B. The slot CZ in the side of the casing receives the check O, which is carried byand secured to the shank of the stop and guides the latter in its vertical movements. The
check is sufficiently long to prevent the knob or key from injurious contact with the plastering and serves as a handle to manipulate the stop. The outer end of the check is provided with the rubber bumper c. The lower end of the stop is provided with a shoe b', of rubber or other yielding material, to obtain a purchase on the floor and hold the door in the required position. The spring II is located in the enlarged portion of the sheath and is coniined `between the shoulder f at the base of the shank b and the shoulder e at the inner end of the reduced portion of the casing.
The device is secured to the inner lower corner of the door,`and when required to be used as a stop to hold the dooropen at the desired angle the checkO is brought in register with the slot d, when the spring II will force the stop in engagement with the Hoor.. To use the device as a check, the portion O is turned at right angles to the door and is supported on the inclined end of the casing.. As a lock, an opening is bored in the floor to receive the lower end of the stop.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is
The hereinbefore shown and described. combined door stop and check, consisting of case A, having ears a, which are apertured to receive the fastening devices, the bore of theoase being reduced at its upper end to form the shoulder c and slotted at d and having the upper end of the case inclined downwardly from the sides of the slot d, the stop B, having shoulder f and adapted to press upon the Hoor, the spring mounted on the stop and adapted to be held between the shoulders e andf, andthehandle O, provided to manipulate the stop B and adapted to strike against the Wall and prevent injurious contact of the key or knob with the said wall, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ALBERT HAUCK. l/Vitnesses.
J. E. MAHOLM, M. L. HAUCK.
