GEORGE W. ROBERTS, OF BONDVILLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,237, dated October 27, 1874; application led September 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ROBERTS, Of Bondville, Champaign county, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Holders or Door- Ohecks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. l
My invention consists in a pointed springbolt, attached to the inside of the door near the top, which works in, and engages with, the slots of a met-al disk Or half-circle, secured to the frame above the door. The spring-bolt, being connected by wires with the door-knob, operates the device, and serves either to bolt the door or to hold it at any angle, or in desired position.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a door and frame with my invention attached. Fig. 2 is a side or sectional view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a plan view of my slotted disk detached.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts.
A is the door. B is the frame Or casing. O is a metal disk Or half-circle, having a series of slots running from the Outside toward the center, which is to be attached to the frame above the door. D is a spring-bolt, pointed at the end, which is to be attached tO the i11- side of the door, immediately under the slOtted disk. E is the door-knob, and F represents the connecting-wires, which are fastened to the lower end Of the spring-bolt, and then gass around and secured to the knob of the oor.
The Operation of my device is simple and easily understood. When the door-knob is turned, the spring-bolt, acted on by the connecting-Wires, draws out Of theslots and allows the door to shut or open. When the knob is released, the bolt automatically slides back into one of the slots, and holds the door either closed or at any desired angle, depending on-the slot with which the spring-bolt engages.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters -Patent, is-
A door-check consisting of the slotted disk O, spring-bolt D, and wires F, connecting the bolt with the door-knob, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE W. ROBERTS.
