ATENT CHARLES S. WHIPPLE, OF NEW LONDON, GONNEOTIOUT,ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE W. GODDARD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOORCHECKS.
I Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,825, dated April 17, 1877; application iiled February 20, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES S. WIIIPPLE, of the city and county of New London, of the State of Connecticut, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Door or Shutter Fasteners; and do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2 a horizontal and longitudinal section, of a fastening of my improved kind, Fig. 3 is an inner edge View of a-slidc-bolt receiver pivoted to the slotted arm, hereinafter described.
My present invention consists in a bolt provided with a T-catch and a pivotal slot arranged with it, as set forth, and, also, in the combination of a slide-bolt receiver, and a slotted arm hinged thereto, with a rotary bolt provided with a T-shaped head at one end, and having a slotto receive a pivot, all being as hereinafter more fully explained, and as shown in the said drawings and definitel claimed.
In such drawings, Ais a bolt provided with a slot, a, arranged in it as represented. This bolt has also projecting from one end of it a T-catch composed of a neck, b, and a head, 0, formed as shown. The bolt also has a knob, cl, and-is held to turn freely on a screw or pivot, c, projecting from a door, D.
The bolt-receiver E, fixed to the door frame or casing, is furnished with a recess, f, to receive the end of the bolt. It also hasarranged with it, as shown, and pivoted to it, anarm, I F, provided with a hole or mouth, g, and a long slot, h, extending therefrom, all being as represented.
-On pressing the bolt into the recess f, the door may be bolted or fastened to. By turning the bolt around on its pivot one hundred and eighty degrees and moving it forward, so as to cause the head of the T-catch to pass through the mouth 9, and the neck of saidcatch to enter the sloth, the bolt will be in engagement with the arm, and the two, with the T-catch, will hold the door open within a certain limit, and to so fasten it open that-a person on the outside of it cannot disconnect the parts of the fastening in a manner to enable him to open the door sufficiently for him to enter or pass through the doorway.
I do not herein claim a T-catch and a slotted arm, as shown in the Patent No. 185,466,
CHARLES S. WHIPPLE.
