The t'ray l li' jof the tray member 18 and has tongues at its ends fixed in apertures in the opposite walls of this member. Partition 23 divides the tray member into two parts one of which 1s adapted to receive a rouge Pen 24 containing a rouge cake 25 and the other a powder box 26 containing suitable cosmetic powder. The rouge pan 24 and powder box 26 fit snugly within the tray member and are frictionally retained within this member. Rouge pan 2A 7 maybe readily removed from the tray member when desired, however, as for the purpose of inserting refills by merely prying out this pan with atool inserted between a corner of this pan and the partition 23. One
or more corners of the powder box 26 may be beveled as at 27 to facilitate the easy re moval of this box when desired, as for the purpose of inserting a refill.
Powder box 26 is made of paper, cardboard or any other suitable material and is a unitary structure without a lid. The side wall of the powder. box 26 is adapted to be punctured to provide an opening 28 through which the powder 30 emerges. Ordinarily the sidewall of the powder box may beweakened at the location of the opening 28 so that this opening may readily be. obtained as by pressing a hard instrument against such weakened side wall. Also, the mere insertion of the powder box .into the tray member will cause the ragged inwardly struck edges of the aperture 19 of the tray member to puncture the side wall of the powder-box, thereby providing the opening 28.
Cover section 11 may have a mirror 31 retained upon its inner surface in any well known manner. .'Instead of the mirror 31,
an ornamental plaque or other desirable device may be positioned within the cover sec tion. A catch 32 provided on the front wall oi'the cover section 10 is adapted to engage 3. lug 33 formed on the front wall of the body section, to thereby retain the vanity case in closed condition. With the vanity case closed, there is sufiicient space between the" powder box 26 and mirror 31 for a powder puff Also, there is sufficient space between the rouge cake 25 and mirror 31 for a rouge puff 35.
In operation, to obtain powder from the vanity case it is merely necessary to oper ate the knob 15 so as to open the'discharge orifice 12, whereupon any desired quantity of powder may be readilyshaken from the tion could be made without departing from 1 the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description. or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is: 1. In a vanity case comprising, a body sec tion having a'powder discharge orifice and a cover section hinged to said body section, a tray member within said body section, and
having an aperture registering with said I powder discharge aperture,-a powd er box carried by said tray 'member,'said powder box having an opening communicating through said tray member aperture with said discharge orifice and valve means operable from the exterior of said body section for opening or closing sa d discharge orifice.
2. In a vanity case comprising, a body section having a powder discharge orifice on the outside thereof and a cover.section hinged to said body section, a'traymember within said body section, a powder box carried by said traymember, said powder box and tray member having openings communicating with said discharge orifice, a slide member for closing said dischargeorifice and a knob for operating said slide member. I
3. In a vanity case comprising, a body section and a cover 'sectionhinged to said bodysect on, a tray member within said body section, said tray member having a peripheral fiangespaced from-the sides of said tray and frlctionally engaging the inner walls of said body section, said flange being connected to the sides of said tray" by an uppencurved bridge portion projecting outwardly of said body section for telescoping into said cover section in guiding relation tothe'latter, and
a cosmetic container carried by said tra-y;
member and trictionally retained therein.
4. In a'vanit-y case comprising,a body section and a cover section hinged to saidbody' section, a tray member within said body-section,.said 'tray'member having a peripheral flange spaced from the sides of said tray and? frictionally engaging the inner walls of said body vsection, said flange being connected to the sides of said tray byan upper curved bridge portion,a p'owderybox carried by said tra'ylmembensaid powder box, tray member reg n body section,,said flange being connected to r and body section having communicating apertures, and means retained between the side of said tray member and the peripheral flange thereof-for conducting powder from v the powder box and tray member apertures 7' to the aperture in said body section.
5.;In a vanity casecomprising, a body section and a cover section hingedto said body 7 section, a tray member within said body sec tion, said tray member having a peripheral flange spaced from the sides of said tray and r Y 7 frictionally engaging the inner walls of said 7 vthe sidesof said tray by an upper curved bridge portion, a powder box carried by said tray member, said powder box, tray member and body, section havingv communicating apertures, means retained between the side of said tray member and the peripheral flange thereof for conducting powder from the powder box and tray member apertures to the aperture in said body section and a valve operable from the exterior of said body section for controlling the flow of powder from said powder box;
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set 'my hand i this 4th day of December, 1928.
