Description

'Patented Dec. 9, 1924.
PATENT oFF1cE.
CORNELIUS HENRY 'DE BERNARDI, OF WEST lHOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed December 6, 1923. Serial No. 679,038.
To aZZwmm 'it may conce-M1.'
Be it known that l, CORNELIUS HENRY DE BERNARDI, a citizen of the United States, and ay 4resident of iVes-t Hoboken, in the coiuit'y of Hudson and Stat-e of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Vanity. Case, of which' the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 'f"
This invention relates to vanity 'cases and has for an object to provide an improved structure wherein cosmetics are arranged in a convenient manner and means are prof vided for supporting desirable A articles other than cosmetics.
Another object of the invention is to provide a vanity case in `which cosmetics are arranged in one section'or part and cigarettesmr other desirablearticles arranged in another part, the various parts being so positioned that'they vwill not interfere.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a vanity case in which a cig-- arette receiving drawer is provided, with the drawer and the other parts so arranged that the cigarettes are not brought to View when the'case is opened while all of the cosmetics are exposed.
In the accompanying drawing; I Figure 1 is a perspective view of a case.
' disclosing an embodiment of the invention,
the same being shown open and filled.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the case sho-wn in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the case shown in Figure 1,1-...the same being shown open and also empty.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a container which is shown substantiallyT rectangular lbut may' be of any desired. shape. This container is cut away at 2 for providing a front opening for accommodating the drawer 3. which drawer extends to the vertical partition 4, whichpartition yis connected with a false bottom 5. The drawer 3 is intended to carry any suitable article, as for instance,
cigarettes, while the main part of the container 1 Ais intended to carry some form of cosmetics. By providing the wall 4, as shown in Figure 2, a deep compartment 6 is Vpresentedvwhich is designed to receivean article 7. as for instance, a bottle of perfume. 'This bottle has been sho vn s quare 1n cross sectlon because this shap produces a nice appearance andalso prevents waste of space. The ribbon, tape `or other fiexible member S 1s connected 1n any suitable man- .ner tothe lid 9 or to the edge of the con tainer 1, said tape`or' other, member extending beneath thearticle 7 as shown in Figure 2 and an appreciable distance over the false bottom 5, whereby it may be readily grasped and pulled for removing the article 7.
Arranged on the falsebottom 5, are two arc-shaped members'lO and 11, said members being connected by a brace 12, said arc-.shaped members co-acting with the false bottom 5 and the side walls of the container 1 for supporting pan-shaped members 1 3 and 14 which are adapted to contain powder or other cosmetics. On the powder or cos'- metics just mentioned, are preferably placed powder puffs 15 and 16. If preferred, instead of using compacts having pans 13 and 14, an ordinary compact or solid block of powder could be mounted on the false bottom 5 and held in place by the arc-shaped members 10 'and 11. The arc-shaped members 10 and' 11 are so positioned that when the compacts are in position as shown in ing the'desired reflection of the face.- In
respect to the drawer 3, it-will be noted that the sameis provided with a shoulder 20 on each side which-strike against the walls ot' thecontainer 1 adjacent the cut-away portion 2 whereby the inward mvementof the 'drawer is limited so that the outer contour of the drawer may be made to match the front and side walls of the casing 1 so as to give aneat appearance to the container.
That I claim is '1. A vanityrcase, comprising a container having the lower front part cut away, a drawer ttedinto the bottom of said container formed with front` and side walls conforming to the front and part of the side walls 0f the container so that-when theing o set sufficiently to permit the drawer` to fit lbetween the end Walls of the container, means for sup-porting cosmetics in the uppery .part of the container, and a. lid
hinged to said container for closing the container.
2. A vanity case, comprising a.; container, a lid for the container, means -for dividing the container into 'a shallow chamber and a deep` chamber, means for dividing the shal- 10W chamber into a plurality of article receiving compartments, and a drawer mountlid for the container, means for dividing the container into a shallow chamberl anda deep chamber, means for dividing the shallow.
chamber'into a plurality of article4 receiving compartments, and a -dravver mounted in the container beneath the shallow chamber, said drawerl engaging the interior surface of the side Wall'oi said container and being guided thereby.
