UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
GEORGE W. HILDRETH, OF LO OKPORT, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN OPERA-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,753, dated December 15, 1874; application filed October 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HILDRETH, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements relating to Opera Chairs or Seats, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to that class of chairs which are adapted to inclined floors, and the seats of which may be turned up out of the Way in order to give room and protect the cushions thereof from dust; and the nature of my invention consists in certain modifications in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are illustrated by similar letters, Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of a chair having my improvements applied thereto. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 illustrate, in detail, the segmental base-joint.
The base-piece A is secured to the floor by means of the screws 0, and is of the curvilinear form shown clearly in Fig. 3. 1t is provided with an outwardly-projecting flange, o, and elongated curvilinear openings a. The lower part of the standard M of the chair is provided with a segmental piece, B, having an inwardlyprojecting flange, s, and elongated curvilinear openings a. When the parts are combined for use the said inwardly-projecting flanges of the standard rest upon the curvilinear top of the base-piece A, and the lower curvilinear edge of said segmental piece rests upon the flange 0. The segmental piece is firmly secured to the base-piece at the desired angle by means of the screw and nut 1).
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the standard M, the segmental piece B, having inwardly-projectin g flanges s and openings a, the base-piece A, provided with the inwardly-projecting flange 0 and openings at, and the screw and nut b, as and for the purposes described.
G. W, HILDRETH.
