IMPROVEMENT IN BABY-TENDERS.

Specification forming part 0f Letters Patent N0. 158,977, dated January 19, 1875; application filed J une 22, 1874.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EZRA POST, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Baby-Tenders, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists of a cradle connected to the ends of two curved metallic springs, which are provided with elongated slots, through which set-screws pass into the bottomA of the cradle. The other ends of the springs are rigidly fixed or attached to a supporting-base, all of which will be more fully described hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my invention 5 and Fig. 2, a bottom view of the cradle, showing the means of connecting it with the springs.

The crib or cradle A may be of any ordinaryT construction, and may have a seat for the child to sit as well as lie down. The cradle is connected near one end to the ends of curved metallic springs B B, which latter are constructed for this purpose with elongated slots c c, through which are passed set-screws d, said screws being caused to enter the bottom of the cradle. The springs are also passed through brackets b b on the bottom ofthe cradle, and by the described means the cradle can be adjusted upon the ends of the springs for accommodating any weight, and to regulate the elasticity of the springs, and after the cradle has been adjusted it is clamped in such position by means of the set-screws, thereby preventing any liability of the displacement of the cradle. The other ends of the springs B B are rigidly attached to the supporting-base C. By means of the two springs connected at opposite ends of the cradle, the latter is prevented from tipping, and an easy balance given the same.

It will be seen that by my construction and arrangement the cradle itself in adjustable upon the springs, whereby the neatness of the nish of the structure is greatly enhanced, since the adjustingscrews and other fastenin gs are out of sight; and, moreover, the cradle can be conveniently detached from the springs and placed upon the Hoor when it is desired to have the cradle and its occupant at rest, neither of which important features can be accomplished where the cradle is rigidly attached to the ends of the springs, and the latter adjustable on the supporting-base, as in the patent to Robt. Ashe, July 23, 1867, No. 67,153, which is hereby disclaimed. Y

I claim- The curved metallic springs B B, rigidly connected at one end to the supporting-base O at opposite sides of the same, and constructed near their other ends with elongated slots c c, in combination with the set-screw d, passing through said slots and into the bottom of the cradle, for adjusting and clamping the latter in., position, the whole being constructed and arranged as shown and described.
