W. B. TAYLOR. I Head- Rest for Gar-SeaJts.
Patented July 1 IJVVEWTOR.
1mm ES W N PEI'ERS, FMOTOwLITNOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D. C.
UNITED/STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARREN B. TAYLOR, or SHARON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEAD-RESTS FOR CAR-SEATS.
Spec fication forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,] 69, dated July 1, 1879; application filed November 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN B. TAYLOR, of Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Head-Rests for Car- Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of thedrawiu gs is a representation of a perspective view, showing my head-rest ready for use; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, showing it folded.
My invention relates to a portable device which serves as ahead-rest on car-seats, chairs, and the like; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will wood, of date April 7, 1868, No. 76,446, and
the construction of the rest proper allows a lateral and vertical adjustment of the head at will without manipulating the device.
Referring to the drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents'the body, having a spring-extension, A, thumb setscrew a, and sockets a to receive the bar B, the lower part of which, in connection with the spring-extension A, embraces the back of the seat or chair. The barB is in two parts, pivoted together at or near the center at b, and the sockets a are adapted to receive it in the extended'condition, or folded, as at Fig. 2. Holes 12 are adapted to receive the inner end of the set-screw a, and holes I) in the upper end are of larger diameter than the curved frame (I, which operates therein. This curved frame 0 has two extending branches, 0 0, each being provided with a lug or stud, c, which operate in slots (1 in the spring-arms D, which are loosely hung on the branches O G, as shown.
E represents the cushion, in one piece, extending over both the arms D, and furnishing a rest for the head.
The bar B may be removed from the sockets a a. by releasing the thumb-screw a, and the sections composing said bar B may be folded, thus affording a more convenient form for transportation.
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
-1. The bar B, in two parts, pivoted together at b, and having perforations b and 11 in combination with the curved frame 0, having branches 0 and studs 0, spring-arms D d, and cushion E, as set forth.
2. The body A, havingspring-extension'A, set-screw a, and sockets a a, in combination with the bar B, pivoted at b, and perforated at b 11 the curved frame 0, having branches 0 and studs 0 ,spring-arms D d, and cushion E, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WARREN BURTON TAYLOR.
