ATENT SEYMOUR JAMES BRYANT, OF RENO, NEVADA.
BUREAU.
FECIFICATON forming part. of Letters Patent No. 344,243, dated June 22, 1886.
Application filed September l?, lSSS.
T0 all whom, it muy concern.-
Be it known that I, SEYMOUR Jnirns BRYANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reno, in the county of Tashoe and State 0lAl Nevada, have invented certain new and use ful Improve- 'ments in Bureaus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a lull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to inake and use t-he same.
My invention consists in combining the back, top, or lnirror part ofadressing-case or bureau with the lower part thereof containing the drawers, by means of dowels and sockets, as described, in such a manner that it may be secured in position or detached from its place with facility.
I ain aware that cleats having their ouler surfaces beveled have been used for connecting and ]'oi1ii1ig the parts of household-furniture, (see, for instauce, the patent ot' Biersdorf No. 102,360 but it will be noted that the principal object ol" niy invention is to forni a finish to the corners of the case and a guard to the back thereof by the use of beveled cleats of equal width, as herein described.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure l represents the back of a bureau or dressing-ease having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents the upper or mirror part detached. The upright cleats or stays A A have their inner edges beveled, and are rnily secured by screws to the back ot' the case in such a inanner as to form a finish for the corners of the case and a guard for its back. The cleats B B are or" the same width and thickness as the cleats A A, and have their outer edges beveled in such a manner as to forni, with the Serial No. 106,656. (No model.)
cleats A A,receptacles C C,l`or the reception of the downwardlyproieetinglegs D D of the upper part, the legs ol' which are beveled at an angle to correspond with edges of the cleats A A and B B,in order that they may [it closely and firmly in the receptacles O C. A crossbar,l l,e \;tends l'roni the cleat Il to the cleat B', the upper edge ot' which is beveled in such a manner as to form an angular receptacle for the down\\ardlyprojecting part Il, the lower edge of which is also beveled at an angle corresponding with the beveled edge of the blr E. 'Ihe upper part is fitted upon the lower partby merely allowing the legs D D and the part F to descend within the receptacles prepared for their reception until the lower beveled edge of the part F comes in contact with the upper beveled edge ol' the cross-bar E.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- In a bureau, the combination ol' the upright cleats A A. having their inner edges beveled and secured to the back of the case in suoli a ina-nner as to form a finish to the corners of the ease and a guard to the back thereof, the cleats B B', having their outer edges beveled, the beveled crossbar E, and the upper part of the case provided with beveled legs D D, and the part F, beveled at its lower edge, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in 4presence of two witnesses.
SEYMOUR JAMES BRYANT.
