Description

J'. BOND. VEHICLE-SEAT.
No, 169,948 Patented Nov.16 1875.
N, PETERS. FHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON, D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB BOND, OF GLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,948, dated November 16, 1875; application filed March 30, 1875.
receive a staple or socket secured to the box,
there being combined with such plate a hookshaped wedge that engages with the socket or staple or eye to lock the seat to the box, such Wedge or hook being made with a weighted handle to keep it in place, as hereinafter more particularly specified.
To enable others to fully understand my invention, I proceed to describe the same in detail with the aid of the accompanying drawing, in which- 'Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, of part of a wagon-box and seat having my fastener attached.
A represents part of a wagon-box side, and B the end support of a seat. D'is a plate, which extends below edge of the support B, having the lower end'bent at a right angle, and
provided with an opening to receive the socket or staple E attached to the side-board A. F is a curved wedge orhook pivoted at the center to the plate D, and which also has a handle, G, attached, by which the wedge is turned in looking and unlocking. Said handle also serves, by its weight, to hold the wedge in place and keep it from rattling or jarring.
This fastener is very easily and quickly operated, the locking of the seat being done by simply turning the wedge on its center, and which may be done in the dark and by the sense of feeling only, and makes a very firm and durable fastening.
This device will be found useful in many other positions and for other purposes; but I especially design it as a seat-lock.
I am aware that a hook has been employed for securing seats to wagons, and I do not claim this broadly as my invention.
Having described my invention I claim- The combination, with the right-angled plate .D secured to the seat, of the weighted hook F G and staple E, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JACOB BOND.
