Patent' teren.
RBERT E. MDERSON, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYL'VNIA.
MATRH HOLDEB.
appneanonmea owner 524, 1824. serial no. 745,888.
To all 'wwm ."t may camera:
Be it known that I, Rosner E. ANnnRsoN, a citizen of the' United States, and a resident of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Matrix Holders, of which the following-is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to matrix holders or hand devices in which to hold matrices, useful to operatives in the linotype, linograph and intertype printing industries, my primary' object belng the prolvision of a simple inexpensve device which may be formed from a single piece-of Sheet metal and cut and stamped to form in an operation involving minimum time, expense and eifor't.
A further object is the provision of a reversible matrix holdervwhich ma be quickly picked up and is then instantly tive position.
With the above in mind my invention resides in a matrix holder to be now described with respect to the accompanying drawing which illustrates my invention and forms a part of this specification and wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved matrix holder complete. i
Figure 2 is a Vertical transverse section taken therethrough, and
Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring now to these figures and particularly to Figure's 1 and 2 it will be noted that my invention proposes a matrix holder in the nature of an' elongated open framelike structure which is Z-shaped in cross section and which includes an intermediate or body portion 10 having angularly and oppositely bent side strips 11 and 12 along its opposite sides-whereby either surface of the body 10 forms a matrix support in conjunction with one of the side strips .11 and 12, each of which constitutes a hacking for one of the holding surfaces of the body.
The body is also provided at its opposite ends with triangular end pieces 13 as most plainly seen in Figure 1, and these end pieces bent at right angles to the body 10 in an operaand in opposite directions with respect thereto, may be joined alon their Shorter sides with the adjacent en s of the side strlps 11 'and 12, as by means of soldering,
brazing and the like so that each of thev I improved matrix holder may be used and that when picked up by the operator it is instantly in position for use so that time and trouble is in this way avoided. It is also obvious that my invention not only fails to complicate the construction in securing the foregoing advantage but the holderprovided by my invention is simple, inexpensive and dnrable.
I claim:
1. A reversible matrix holder consisting of an elongated member Z-shaped in cross section, inc uding a body portion and engularly and oppositely bent side strips along the sides of said body portion.
2. A reversible matrix holder consisting of an elongated member -shaped in cross section, including a body portion and angularly and oppositel bent side strips along' the sides of said bo y portion, and said side strips being gradu'ated continuously along the outer faces thereof for the purpose described.
3. A reversible matrix holder consisting i
