Be it known that I, FRED HAsKnL, a crt1- zen of the United States'ot America, res1ding at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card Holders, of which the following is a speclfication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention relates to card holders and has for its object the provision of a device which may be easily stamped out of a sheet metal blank and has a clamping portion laterally off-set from the securing portion to permit limited flexing of the portlon of the body between the clamping and secur ng portions. Another object is the provision of a device secured at its opposite ends to a base and having a clamping portion intermediate its ends extending transversely of the body from one edge thereof, and a thumb portion extending transversely of the body from the opposite edge thereof, the outer end of this thumb portion being spaced from the base, the arrangement being such that upon inward movement of the thumb portion, the body will be flexed and the clamping portion moved away from the base. Further objects of the invention reside in the novel features of construction as more fully hereinafter set forth.

extends inwardly toward the base 1 to more firmly clamp the card 8 against the base.

As shown in Figure l, the card holder is secured to the base intermediate its ends and has the clamping portions at its ends, the arrangement being such that the clamping portions may be moved away from the base by flexing the neck portions of the body to release the clamping pressure upon the card.

In the modificatiorishown in Figure 2, the card holder has its securing portions 9 at the opposite ends of its body and the clamping portion 10 intermediate its ends and eX- tending transversely from one edge of the body. The portion of the body intern'iediate the securing and clamping portions is of reduced width to form the neck 11 whereby the body may be more readily flexed when releasing the clamping pressure upon the card.

Figure 3 shows a card holder which is adapted to engage one corner of the card, its securing portions 12 being at opposite ends of the transversely extending portions of the body and its clamping portions 153 being intermediate these securing portions.

In the modification illustrated by Figures (S, '7 and 8, the card holder has the securing portions i l at its opposite ends formed with the prongs l5 for securing the same to the base 16. Intermediate the se curing portions the clamping portion 17 having the indentation 18 and extending transversely from the lower edge of the body of the holder, which has the neck portion 19 intermediate the clamping and se curing portions. For the purpose of releasing the clamping pressure upon the card without the necessity of engaging the clamping portion, there is the thumb portion 20 extending transversely from the edge of the body opposite the clamping portion. This thumb portion diverges outwardly from the base 16 so that to release the clamping pres sure upon the card, the thumb portion is moved toward the base, thereby flexing the neck portion of the body and moving the clamping portion away from the base. This is a very important feature since the card may be very thin and easily torn and several may be clamped together.

In all of the constructions of card holders above described, the lower edges of the bodies may be used as guides and also as stops to limit the upward movements of the cards.

It is not necessary to manufacture card across and in a direction at right angles to said edge and terminating in a card-engag ing head.

In combination with a base, of a card holder stamped from sheet metal and positioned flat against said base, and spaced means for securing said holder to said base, said holder having an edge forming a stop for the card, said holder being formed with a card-clamping portion disposed between said securing means and comprising a neck extending across and in a direction at right angles to said edge and terminating in a card-engaging head.

The combination with a base, of a card holder having a body provided with a securing portion, a neck extending transversely thereto and arranged at one side of said securing portion, a clamping portion for engaging the card connected to said neck portion, and a thumb portion extending transversely from the body portion on the side thereof opposite said neck portion, the outer end of said thumb portion being spaced from the base whereby upon movement of said thumb portion toward said base the neck portion and the clamping portion will be flexed outwardly from sald base to release the card.

4 The combination with a base, of a card holder having a body with securing portions at its opposite ends and an intermediate neck portion, means for securing said securing portions to said base, a transversely extending clamp-ing portion connecting into one edge of said neck portion engageable with a card to clamp the same against said base, and a thumb portion connecting into the other edge of said neck portion opposite said clamping portion, said thumb portion having its outer end spaced from said base, whereby upon movement of said thumb portion toward said base said neck portion is flexed and said clamping portion moved away from said base. 7

5. The combination with a base, of a card holder formed of a stamping and having a body with securing portions at its opposite 7 ends and an intermediate neck portion, prongs upon said securing portions engaging in said base, a transversely extending clamping portion connecting into one edge of said neck portion and engageable with a card to clamp the same against said base, and a thumb portion connecting into the other edge of said neck portion opposite said clamping portion, said thumb portion diverging outwardly from said base, whereby upon movement of said thumb portion toward said base, said neck portion is flexed and said clamping portion moved away from said base.
