My invention relates to clips and more particularly to that class employed for temporarily securing layers of material together, for instance sheets of paper.

One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a clip of the above described character so constructed and arranged whereby the same may be easily and readily applied to layers of material, for instance sheets of paper, to temporarily secure said layers together and in a manner to permit the clip to be applied from either side of the material without the necessity of reversing the clip.

Another object of my invention is to provide a clip of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, eflicient in opera tion and economical in manufacture.

An important object of my invention is to provide a clip of the character described havingv free ends so constructed and arranged as to facilitate the application of the clip to the material and at the same time preclude damaging of the material during the application of the clip thereto.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.

Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention as applied to layers of material for temporarily securing the layers together.

Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof.

Figure 3 is a perspective View of my novel form of clip.

Figure 4 is a side elevation of a modified form of my invention.

In practicing my invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 of the drawing, I provide a single length of wire 5 bent to define a pair of oppositely disposed substantially isosceles triangularshaped side members 6 having their apex ends I arranged in end to end relation. Each ofthe side members 6 are formed with a pair of diagonal sections 8 and 9 respectively and with a base section I9. The diagonal section 9 of one pair is disposed in aligned relation with the diagonal section 9 of the other pair and constitutes a continuous part of the latter and integrally connects the members together as clearly illustrated in the drawing.

The diagonal sections 8 extend beyond the respective apex ends 1 and are arranged in side to side parallelism and lap the diagonal sections 9. The diagonal sections 8 terminate in curved ends ll extending outwardly and away from the diagonal sections 9.

In use, the diagonal sections 8 and one of the base sections ID are disposed on one side of layers of material, for instance sheets of paper l2 and the diagonal sections 9 and the other base section In disposed on the opposite side of said sheets of paper and coact with the other sections 8 and ID to eifectively clamp the sheets together. It will be noted that the ends of the base sections H) are provided with looped portions integrally connecting said base sections to the diagonal sections and when the clip is applied to the'sheets of paper one loop portion of each member embraces the marginal edges of the sheets to dispose the base section of each member on the opposite side of the material with respect to one of its diagonal sections. Furthermore, the curved ends ll of the sections 8 facilitate application of the clip to the material and preclude marring or damaging of the layers during application and removal of the clip.

In the modified form illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawing, the diagonal sections 20 of each of the side members 2| are disposed at an acute angle relative to their respective base sections 22 to provide a relatively long and narrow clip 23.

It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A clip formed from a single strand of wire bent to define a pair of triangles of which the angles of the apexes form vertical angles, the extremities of the strand lying in lateral overlapping contact and extending equal distances on opposite sides of the apexes.

2. A clip formed from a single strand of wire bent to define a pair of triangles of which the angles of the apexes form vertical angles, the extremities of the strand lying in lateral overlapping contact and extending equal distances on members arranged in apex end to end relation, each of said members having a base section and a pair of diagonal sections with one of the latter of each member constituting a continuous part of a diagonal section of the other member, and the other diagonal sections extending beyond their respective apex ends and defining the end portions of said strand.

4. The structure of claim 3 as set forth and defined therein including, said end portions terminating in curved ends extending outwardly and away from said continuous part.

5. A clip formed from a strand of wire bent to define a pair of oppositely disposed triangular members arranged with their apexes end to end, each of said members having parallel base sections and a pair of diagonal sections with one of the latter of each member constituting a continuous part of a diagonal section of the other member, and the other diagonal section formed by the free ends of the strand and engaging each other and also the continuous part of the diagonal section, and the free ends thereof turned outwardly away from the continuous part of the diagonal.
