Description

A. L. RIEDESEL.
HOLDINGCLIP FOR PLI ERS. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 9, 1921.
1,409,971. Patented Mar. 21,1922.
PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR I1. RIEDESEL, OF IBR'ULE, NEBRASKA.
HOLDING CLIP FOR PLIERS.
Application filed March 9, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. RInnnsEL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Brule and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holding Clips for Pliers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a holder in the nature of a clip designed for attachment to a pair of mechanics pliers, for holding same to the pocket or belt of the mechanic, or other user, and so prevent their accidental loss.
The prime object is to provide a clip attachment of the kind described, and also a form of the same embodying double or reversed clips adapted to engage the pocket from either side of the pliers.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a pair of pliers equipped with this attachment.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is an edge view of the clip itself, apart from the pliers.
The inventon consists in cutting or stamping from a single piece of spring sheet metal a double Clip device 1, embodying a shank 2 and double or reversed tongues or prongs 3 having outwardly flared ends 4 adapted to readily engage a pocket or belt. The shank 2 is curved sidewise in its own plane so as to adapt it to meet one of the handles Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1922.
Serial No. 450,892.
WVith this double clip thus mounted on the pliers, it is obvious that one of the prongs 8 is always ready for engagement with the pocket or belt, regardless of which side of the pliers is presented for engagement. Thus a mechanic does not have to turn the tool over, to bring the clip into the right position to engage the pocket, as is the case with a single clip, but one or the other of the prongs of the clip is always ready for engagement and this results in a considerable saving oi time and trouble taken altogether.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A double clip formed ofa single piece of spring sheet metal and having reversed, outwardly turned prongs, and a shank portion ia iliapted to engage a pair of pliers or the ARTHUR L. RIEDESEL.
