v To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN R. HAN- NAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lawtey, in the county of Bradford and State of Florida, have inelectric lamp holders and has particularapinafter set forth in and plication to portable electric lamp holders.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide aulamp holder of the character above set forth whereby the lamp may be clamped to a suitable objectsuch, for instance, ;as a table, suspended from a convenient support, or placed upon a table or the like in any convenient position so that the same may be moved from place to place with ease and facility.
Furthermore, I aim to provide a portable electric lamp holder wherein the lamp may be moved at any desired angle relatively to the holder so that the rays of light issuing from the lamp, when the same is illuminated, may be thrown in any direction in accordance with the circumstances or conditions prevailing.

oneend of the metal interconnecting the disks forming the-cam beingvtur-ned outwardly to provide a finger hold 18. From this construction, it will be seen that, when the cam is moved about the pivot pin 12 in one direction, the serratedor toothed surface thereof will be disengaged from the similar portion of the plate or member 5 so that theplates may be separated. After the plates have been separated, the clamp may be applied to an object and the members thereof disposed upon the opposite sides of suchobjectfas the edge e of a table. Subsequentto the application of the clamp to the support, the cam is moved or rotated about the pivot pin in the reverse direction whereby the members of the clamp firmly grip the support, the serrated portions of the clamp and cam serving to efi'ectively h ld the clamp applied. A suitable device such for instance as a sprin 19 is interposed between the plates of tie clamp and normally acts to hold the plates in spaced relation, the spring, in the present instance, being coiled about the shank 8 and having the opposite ends thereof abutting the inner surfaces of the respective plates so that, when the clamp is relieved of the influence of the cam, the plates thereof will be forced away from each 'other thereby facilitating the application of the clamp to'a support and the removal of such clamp.
The letter S designates a lamp socket for the bulb g of the lamp and this socket is connected to the clamp in such manner as to be movable relatively thereto so that the lamp may be disposed at the desired angle. In the present instance, the connection between the socket and the clamp is effected by means of a disk 20 formed integral with one edge of the member 1 of the clamp between the lugs 3, 3 thereon and disposed in a plane at right angles to the plane of the respective plate, and a second disk 21 formed integral with a shank 22 connected to the socket S, the disks 20 and 21 being provided with centrally arranged alining openings through which is passed a headed stud 23 having threaded onto the free end thereof a nut 24. By means of this construction, it will be seen that the lamp may be moved or thrown, in a plane at right angles to that of the clamp, to any desired position, the nut 24 on the stud 23 being loosened and tightened to facilitate the movement ofthe lamp and the holding of such lamp in the desired adjusted position, respectively.
One of the members of the clamp, the member 5 in the present instance, has a portion curved as at 25 so that, in the event, of the object or support being of a thickness. greater 1 than the space between the plates of the clamp, when such plates are parallel, the clamp may adapt itself to the support.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of employing my invention will be readily apparent. Should it be desired to clamp the holder to a support, -the members or plates of the clamp are separated and then applied to the object, the cam being subsequently actuated to produce a clamping or gripping action. On the other hand, should it be desired to suspend the lamp holder a nail or the like 11., shown in Fig. 2, is driven into the support or object and the clamp is suspended from such nail by means of the key hole slot 2 formed in the member 1. To support the lamp upon a level or horizontal surface the bottom surface of the plate 1 placed in contact with'the first surface whereby the weight of the clamp will-prevent tipping oft e holder under the weight of the lamp and the lamp held in the desired position.
It will be seen that I have provided a. portable lamp holder whereby a lam ,may be clamped to an object, suspended om a convenient support and mounted upon a horizontal surface in such manner as to be freely movable thereover so as to accommodate the user of thelamp, and furthermore, it will be seen that the lamp may be adjusted or'thrown to any desired position relatively to .the clamp or support.
In the practice of-my invent-ion, I propose to cover the members or plates of the clamp with suitable fabric such, for in-' stance, as felt, rubber or the like so that the application of the device to an article of furniture or the like will not mar or mutilate the latter.
While I have herein shown and described one particular'embodiment of my invention byway of illustration, I wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise details of construction herein described and delineated, as modification and variation may be made within the scope of the claim and without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A device of the class described comprising a clamp composed of a bottom plate having pivot lugs extending upwardly from one edge thereof and spaced apart, a movable plate having a barrel formed integral with one end thereof and disposed between said pivot lugs, and a pivot pin passed through said lugs and barrel, said movable plate being provided with an elongated slot adjacent to one edge thereof and formed with toothed portions at the opposite sides of said slot, a shank carried by said stationary plate and extendlng upwardly through said elongated slot and term nating in an eye, a pivot pin disposed within said eye, a cam upon said pivot pm and having teeth formed on the periphery thereof adapted to engage the toothed portions of said movable plate to swing the latter toward the stationary plate to produce a clamping action, a spring surrounding said shank between said plates and holding the same normally spaced apart, a lamp socket,
and connections between said lamp socketand clamp.
