In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hammer and attachment.
Fig. 2 is a frontal elevation.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation.
Fig. 4 is a detail of the device itself.
The invention consists of two aws 3, pivotally connected at 5 and carryingthe complementary nail holding notc es 7. A U-shaped clamp spring 6 is connected at its base 9 with the pivoted ends of the jaws 3, while the free ends 1-0 of the spring impinge the outer faces of the jaws 3, thus holding them in contact. Laterally extended curved Specification of Letters Patent. V Patented May 31, 1921.
spring fingers or grips 2 extend from the pivoted ends of the jaws 3 and engage the 1 handle 1 of the hammer 11, in such manner that the notches 7 become positioned im-' mediately at the side of the hammer 11. The notches 7 engage the head 12 of the nail 8, thus holding the nail in convenient position for starting in the work. The at- What I claim to be new and patentable is PATENT canon.
A nail holding attachment for hammers,
comprising two jaws pivotally connected at their inner ends and having complementary nail engaging notches in their outer ends; a U-shaped spring mounted over said jaws and adapted to hold them closed; laterally extended grips adapted to releasably engage the hammer handle.
