UNITED STATES 1 1,533, 31?) PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER G, WOOD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PHOTOGRAFH 0R LIKE M'OUNT.
Application filed January 10, 1924. Serial No. 685,338.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER G. lVoon, a citizen of the United States. residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Photograph or like Mount, of which the following is a specification.
This invention, generally stated, relates to photographic and like mounts such as are usually made of heavy paper for the display of portraits and other pictures. The leading object of the present invention is to provide a mount of this character so arranged, connected and constructed that there is visible at all times upon the display face of the backing certain indicia as, for instance, the name of the photographer. Other and further objects not at this time appearing will be hereinafter more particularly referred to.
The invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which Fig. 1, is a view in elevation of a mount in open position to expose the backing display face.
Fig. 2, is a view in elevation showing a slightly modified form. V
Fig. 3, is a view corresponding to Fig. 1 with the flaps in folded position, and
Fig. 4:, isa view corresponding to Fig. 2 with the flaps in folded position.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings two forms thereof which are at present preferred by me, since the same have been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the recise arrangement and organization of t e instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a backing provided with laterally disposed foldable flaps 2 and 3. The backing has a display face which, as shown in Fig. 1, may be provided with corner clips 4 for the insertion of a photograph the flaps being open.
or other picture, or it may be a plain surface as indicated at 5 in Fig. 2. The flaps 2 and 3 are adapted to be folded over upon the display face of the backing, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The backingand the flaps are so constructed and proportioned with respect to oneanother that in the overlapping position thereof at least a portion of said backing display face remains uncovered to disclose indicia thereon. In Fig. 1 this exposed portion is indicated by the numerals 6 and 7, and in Fig. 2 by the nu.-
meral 8. In other words, in Fig. 1 the spaces 6 and 7 are at the top and bottom respectively of the mount and in Fig.2 the space 8 is at the bottom only of the mount. The purpose of providing these spaces is to provide a display space for certain indicia, for instance, the name of the photographer. Thus when the flaps 2 and 3 are folded over in interlapping position, while the photograph, picture or the like is entirely hidden the space with the indicia thereon is clearly visible, as is clearly seen in Figs. 3 and 4. By reason of'this construct-ion the photographer, for instance, derives constant advertisement whether the photograph is hidden by the flap or is in plain view by reason of In Fig. 1 the flaps 2 and 3 are cut-away at the top and at the bottom as at 9 and 10 respectively so that when in folded position the parts 6 of the backing projects above the flaps and the space 7 of the backing depends below the flaps 2 and 3. One flap, that designated 2 in the drawings, is provided with a plurality of slits or slots 11 and 12, the other of said flaps, that designated 3 in the drawings, is provided with a tab 13. When the flaps are folded in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the tab 13 is inserted through slit 11 for securely interlocking the parts together. WVhen the flaps 2 and 3 are folded in the rear of the backing tab 13 is inserted through slit 12 in order to interlock the flaps for supporting the backing as an easel, as shown and described in my co-pending application for Letters Patent, Serial No. 621,538, filed Feb. 27, 1923.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and While I have in the present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof V which has been found in practice to give thereon the name of the photographer making such photograph, the backing and flaps being so constructed and proportioned with respect to one another that in said overlapping relation of said parts at least a portion of said backing display face remains uncovered to disclose the name of the photographer making said photograph, and means for interlocking said flaps with respect to one another. 7 g i In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
