PHOTOGRAPH MOUNTING I Filed Nov. 27, 1937 INVENTOR. Naf'han war'shaw 0Q J3- ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 20, 1938 I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PHOTOGRAPH MOUNTING Nathan Warshaw, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application November 27, 1937, Serial No. 176,819
6 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in photograph mountings or picture corner pockets by means of which photographs and the like may be removably, or if desired permanently, mounted in a photograph album and the like.
The general object of the invention is to provide a strong reinforced corner pocket mounting of this type made from a single blank of material.
A further object of the invention is to provide in-a device of this type a corner pocket consisting of several thicknesses of material at the pocket portion ensuring a strong durable mounting.
A further object of this invention is to provide a single piece blank of fibrous material pre-scored and foldable on the score line into final form.
These and other objects as will appear from the following disclosure are secured by means of the invention herein described.
This invention resides substantially in the combination, construction, arrangement and relative location of parts, all in accordance with the description when taken in connection with the attached drawing.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof after the first fold, on line 6;
Figure 3 is a similar view after the second fold, on line 5;
Figure 4 is a view after the final fold showing the finished structure; and
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 4 showing the double thickness pocket.
As those skilled in this art will appreciate, the blank from which the corner pocket or mounting is made in accordance with this invention is stamped out of a suitable piece of fibrous material, preferably paper, which, as is common, is black in color. The complete blank is shown in Figure 1 and is of a single piece of paper stamped or blanked out from a strip. The structure is of such simple nature that it may readily be produced automatically in a continuously operating machine using strips or sheets of suitable paper, preferably completely gummed on the rear face. The blank may be roughly divided into four areas which are defined by score lines providing, as is well known in the art, fold lines. These areas are indicated by the reference numerals I, 2, 3, 4, 3 and 4. The lines 5, 6,1, and 8 represent the score lines. Additional score lines 9 and Ill may or may not be provided, depending upon whether or not in the finished articleit is desired to have turned over so as to expose the adhesive tabs by means of which the photographs or pictures can be permanently secured in the mounting.
In folding the finished blank into final form the area 2 is folded along the score line 6 so as to lie at right angles to its previous position overlying the areas 3' and 4, as isclear from Figure 2. With the parts thus folded the blank is then folded along the score line 5 to the position shown in Figure 3, at which time the area 2 overlaps the area I so that the adhesive on the rear face of the area 2 at the overlapping portion engages the area I. That portion of the adhesive on the overlapping strip of the portions l and 2 is moistened so that they may be permanently secured in this relative position. The faces of the areas 3, 4, 3' and 4, on which appears the adhesive, are at this time exposed, as indicated by the stippling in Figure 3. The adhesive is moistened and theareas 3 and 3' are folded on the score lines 8 and 8 so as to overlie the areas 4 and 4, respectively, and be adhered thereto.
As is clear from Figure 5 this arangement provides a right angled pocket which is closed along the bottom edges, and is provided with a back wall represented by the areas I and 2, for a portion of which at least there is a double thickness of material, and a front wall portion which is of double thickness, the plies of which are firmly adhered together. This structure, of which Figure 4 is a front elevational view, represents the completed article which in use is merely applied to the surface on which it is to be mounted by moistening the rear thereof and cementing it in place. When it is desired to secure the photographs or pictures in the pocket so they may not readily be removed, the tabs defined by the score lines 9 and 10 may be bent over to the position shown in Figure 4, bringing their adhesive surfaces to the front. This protects them against moistening the adhesive on the rear of the mount while it is being secured in place. At the time the picture corner is inserted in the pocket these small tabs may be moistened and the picture pressed down on them after it is seated so that it is securely held in place. When one of these mountings is used at each of the four corners of the pictures and is secured to each pair of tabs it will be seen that it is firmly secured.
It will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art that all the folding operations may be carried out in automatic machinery and the cementing of the portions l and 2 likewise effected therein. As is sometimes common in the process, the blanking and folding operations may be carried out continuously in a single mechanism into which the paper is fed and from; which the finished mounts issue.
From the above description it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the details of this invention may be varied without departure from the scope of the novel subject matter herein disclosed. I do not, therefore, desire to be strictly limited to the disclosure as given for purposes of illustration but rather to the scope of the claims granted me.
What I seek to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A corner pocket of the type described, consisting of a rear wall formed from two portions of fibrous material overlapping and cemented together, and a single piece front wall of fibrous material integral with the rear wall portions, the front wall being in two layers adhesively bound together.
2. A corner pocket of the type described, consisting of a rear wall formed. from two portions of fibrous material overlapping and cemented together, and a front Wall of fibrous material integral with the rear wall portions, the front wall being in two layers adhesively bound together, the entire structure being formed from a single blank of fibrous material.
3. A blank of fibrous material foldable to form a corner pocket, comprising a single piece of material composed of a square portion foldable on diagonal lines and tab portions extending in directly opposite directions and integral with the square portion on a pair of adjacent sides, one of said tab portions being wider than the other.
4. A blank of fibrous material foldable to form a corner pocket, comprising a single piece of material composed of an open square portion foldable on diagonal lines and tab portions extending in opposite directions and integral with the open square portion on a pair of adjacent sides.
5. A blank of fibrous material foldable to form a corner pocket, comprising a single piece of material composed of an open square portion foldable on diagonal lines and tab portions extending in opposite directions and integral with the open square portion on a pair of adjacent sides, one of said tab portions being wider than the other.
6. A mounting of the type described, comprising a single piece of material folded to form a rear wall, the top and sides of which meet at right angles and the bottom of which consists of portions extending at right angles to each other and at 45 to the sides, and a double-thickness front wall integral with the rear wall along said portions.
