COMBINATION CABINET AND TABLE.
Application filed October 15, 1923.
' cabinets, an'd'more particularly to a combination cabinet and table particularly adapted for use by automobile tourists; it being the principal object of the invention to porvide a compact and durable construction wherein kitchen utensils and food may be kept and which is equipped with an outer casing removable therefrom and so constructed that it may be converted into a table whereon meals may be served.
Other objects of the invention reside in the details of construction of the cabinet proper and in the manner in which its casing is applied and removed therefrom.
A still further object resides in the provision of a combination cabinet of the above character that is suitable for mounting on a running board of an automobile or like vehicle.
In accomplishing these and other objects of the invention, I have rovided the improved details of construction, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet embodied by the present invention, illustrating its mounting on the running board of an automobile.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cabinet with the outer casing removed.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the table formed from the removable casing of the cabinet.
Figure 4 is a view of the casing partly collapsed.
Figure 5 is a sectional detail view illustrating the character of legs used on the table and the manner in which they are at tached thereto.
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing in detail a leg mounting member.
Referring more in detail to the drawings The cabinet consists of a frame structure, as is shown in Figure 2, comprising the four corner uprights 1 which are fixedly secured Serial No. 668,574.
at their lower ends to a bottom wall 2, and at their upper ends to fiat top board 3. Supported within the frame thus formed, in spaced apart relation, are shelves 4 each of which has recesses 5 at its ends which, as will presently be described, are to receive the table supporting legs attached to the table forming casing. p
I have enclosed that section of the cabinet between the lower shelf and bottom wall 2 so as make it perfectly tight, and have equipped it with drawers 6 in which articles of food, which it is desired to keep free from dust and moisture, may be kept.
Fitted about the cabinet frame is a casing comprising a back wall 8, opposite side walls 99 and two front forming sections 1010' which may be provided with a suit able lock 11 whereby they may be held together in closed position.
The two side walls 99 are hingedly at tached to the opposite side edges of the back wall 8 by hinges 12, as shown in Figure 4, and the two front sections are hingedly fixed to the swinging edges of the side sections by means of hinges 13. These five parts are so arranged and hinged together that the casing thus formed may be wrapped about the cabinet frame and held secure when the front door forming sections are locked together. i
To use the casing for a table, it is removed from the cabinet and the sections 8 and 9-9 extended in the same horizontal plane with the sections 10-10 hanging downwardly therefrom and forming the end leaves of the table. To support the table, I have provided four legs 15 that are pivotally secured to the under sides adjacent the opposite ends of the sections 9-9 to plates 16, and each has a laterally turned end portion 17 which acts as a stop for limiting outward movement of the leg and which acts as a brace whereby the leg is held in position to support the table. When it is desired to collapse the table the legs are folded downwardly against the sides, then when the casing is applied to the frame, the legs fit within the recesses 5 in the ends of the slelves.
Such a construction provides a very compact arrangement for the carrying of food and cooking utensils and combines with it a very'convenient table. The device can be made in various sizes and can be easily and readily attached to a running board of an automobile. I
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-l atent is:
l. A cabinet comprising top and bottom Walls and a shelf supporting frame, a casing removable from the frame comprising back wall, side walls and front wall sections, the latter being adapted to be locked together to hold the casing about the frame and adapted when removed from the frame to be extended to form a table top.
2. A cabinet comprising; top and bottom walls and a shelf supporting frame, a casing removable from the frame comprising a back wall, side walls front well sections; the latter being adapted to be locked together to secure the casing about the frame and adapted, when removed from the frame, to be extended to form a table top legs attached to the end walls for suppor ing the table top and foldztble against said walls within the casing when the latter is eppiied about the frame. V e
A. cabinet of the class described comprising, :1 lr-od frame having top and bot tom wells with shelves and drawers supported intermediate thereof, a casing removably applied about the frame comprising a back wall, opposite side walls and two front wall sections; said side Wall sections being hingerilly attached to the opposite edges of the back wall and adapted to be moved to coextensive relation therewith to form 21 table top and said front sections being hin ed to the edges of the side sections to i the wending end leaves of the table; and legshinqedly attached to the inner faces of saidside wall sections adapted to be folded tliereegeinst or extended to support th table.
