GEORGE L. HfiLYER A ND CHARLES A. GREAG, OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA; SAID HILLYER ASSIGNOR TO SAID CREAG.
KITCHEN CABINET.
Specification r Letters Ifatent. P te ted Mar, 14, 1922.
Application filed September 23, 1920. Serial No. 412,210.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that we, GEORGE L. HILLYER and CHARLES A. CREAG, citizens of the United States, residing at Santa Ana, in the county of Orange and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Kitchen Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide a kitchen cabinet containing a stove, the cabinet being adapted to be'closed so as to conceal the stove when it is not desired to use the latter, and being arranged to be swung open so as to display the stove in po- 'sition for use and also to conveniently position the shelving and receptacles carried by the cabinet.
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in whicha Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabmet in open position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the cabinet in closed position, but with the top swung back.
Fig. 3 i a plan view of the cabinet in closed position.
The cabinet consists of a back 1 having the base 2 projecting from the same at its lower edge. The base may be supported upon legs or casters 3, and side braces 3, preferably, connect the base 2 and the back 1. A shelf 4 projects from back 1 adjacent its upper edge, said shelf being, preferably, supported by brackets 5. A suitable stove 6 is mounted upon shelf 4.
Side walls 7 are hinged at their rear edges to the side edges of back 1 as shown at 8, and front walls 9 extend laterally from the front edges of side walls 7 so that when the side walls are swung into closed position at the respective sides of shelf 4 the front walls 9 will extend in front of shelf 4 with their meeting edges suitably connected as by a hook 10 and an eye 11 positioned upon the inner surface-of the respective front walls.-
A top 12, preferably, connects the respective side and front walls, said tops whenthe walls are swung to their closed position forming a top above the stove 6.. The meeting edges of tops 12 may be recessed as shown at 13 in order that a finger may be inserted through the aperture thus provided for fastening and unfastening the hoole connection 10-11.
Shelving14 may be arranged upon the 2 with the front walls of the cabinet in the corners formed by the side and front walls and shelving 15 forming receptacles 16 may be mounted upon the base 2.
When the walls of the cabinet are swung to their open position as shown in Fig. 1 the stove 6 is displayed in convenient position for use and the shelving of the cabinet is in position to have the articles supported by. the same conveniently removed. When the walls are swung to closed position a closure for concealing stove 16 and the shelving of the cabinetis provided. In this position the front walls 9, preferably, rest upon base edge of the same projecting slightly beyond the front walls.
When the cabinet is in closed position a top 18 is ada ted to be swung downupon the tops 12. This top may be hinged to the back 1 at its upper edge as shown at 19, and when swung in closed position upon tops 12, preferably, projects slightly beyond the sides and front of the cabinet in order to form a neat and finished construction. When the cabinet is open for use the top 17 may be swung back so as to form a shelf as shown in Fig. 2. This shelf is supported by brackets 20 hinged to back 1 as shown at 21 in order that said bracketsmay be either swung outwardly into position for supporting the top 18, or may be folded against the back 1 as shown in Fig. 3.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.-
What is claimed is:
A cabinet comprising a back, a base rigidly secured to the back so as to hold the back uprlght, brackets extending forwardly from the back near its top, a shelf u on the brackets, a stove upon the shelf, si e walls hinged to the sides of the back, front walls extending from the outer sides of the GEORGE L. HILLYER. CHARLES A. CREAG.
