IMPROVEMENT IN COMBNED WARDROBES, BEDSTEADS, CHAIRS, AND TABLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. hl?, dated September 2, 1873; application tiled February 15,1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WALirnnlGnronnLL, of Bath, in the county of Sagadahoel and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Combination` Cabinet, of which the following is a specification:

. The invention consists in the improvement of cabinet articles, as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the combination-cabinet article complete in the folded-up condition. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the bed lounge, or inverted reclining-chair. Fig. 3 is a plan view of Fig. 2, with a part 0f the bottom broken out. Fig. 4 is an inside elevation of the front portion, which constitutes the table when detached and set up.' Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the table; and Fig. 6 represents the chair, which is formed of the several pieces comprising the top of the case.

Ais the front ofthe cabinet, represented in Fig. 1, with narrow sides B forming parts of the sides thereof, and constituting the pendent sides of the table-top when detached from the case and arranged for the table, as represented in Fig. 5, the foidinglegs C, which are pivoted to it, as represented in Fig. 4C, being let down and fastened by the butt-ons D. The part E of the top of the cabinet constitutes the back of the chair, Fig. 6, and has the seat F hinged to it at G. It also has the upholstered cushion ,y E above the seat, and this is so tted'on the back and connected to the seat that, when it swings down against the side of the back to adjust the latter for its place in the cover, it draws the cushion down below the top to uncover the end sufficiently to rest on the top of the side-board of the cabinet, and when the seat swings up into position it moves the cushion up to hide the back. The sides of the chair are formed of the two boards H, which, being constructed as represented in Fig. 6, nest together so as to be laid on the top of the cabinet and constitute the balance of the cover. These sides hold the seat at the front by the pins I. The sections K and L of the sides of the case, and boards J between the front A B and the maiupart M, comprise the principal portion of the bed or recliningeouch, K and L being the sides, and J the bottoms. rihe section K is pivoted at the upper end to the top of L, and L is pivoted to the part M at N, so as to swing down to the positions represented in Fig. 1. Aprolongation of the bottom J is formed by the board O, which is pivoted to it at P, so as to swing up and down, and it is connected to arms Q, which extend along under L, and at their extremities are connected by cords F. to a roller, S, with a holding-pawl for raising and lowering the head-support and holding it at any point. This piece folds up vertically against the bottom J when the sections K L are folded up, and, as it is wider than the distance from the hinges F to the top, it is jointed at T to fold over. The arms Q, are jointed at U, so that the lower parts t'old up against the bottom J. The legs a of the section K turn up and let the outer end down, as indicated by the dotted lines b, t0 adjust the apparatus for a reclining-couch, also to lie against the bottom J when the bed is folded up. When the section K is let down for a couch the notches opened between the ends of the sections K and L are closed by the triangular pieces d titted in them and fastened by hooks and. eyes. The notches or spaces between the end ot' the section L and the front edges ofthe sides of the part M are iitted up to ina-ke a nish by the boards e, which are fastened in by the hooks and eyes j'. These pieces d and e are packed against the uder side of the table when the cabinet is folded up, and secured by buttons D g h t and some ot' the legs of the table, as represented in Fig. 4.. A is the washstan'd, with-a towel-rack attached, mounted on a door, Bf, which is hinged to the side of the part M, where an opening, G', is made in the side of the case into a chamber within, so that the stand swings into the case and is inclosed when the door is shut, and swings out for use when the door is opened. At the side of the part M, opposite the one having the washstand, a drawer, D, is arranged for linen and other like goods. The bed or lounge K L, Ste., will be upholstered in any approved way. rlhe rollers S may be turned to wind or unwind the cords by a wrench applied at Y. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A cabinet comprising the table A B O, chair F GH, bed K L J O, and the Washstand arranged in one article, substantially in the manner herein described.

2. The arrangement of the chainback E and sides H, by which the5r comprise the said parts of the chair and the cover of the cabinet, substantially asspeciiied.

3. The arrangement of the cushion H and the seat F of the chair with the back, and cach other to shift the cushion along the back, substantially' as speciiied.

4. The arrangement of the sections K, L, J, and 0 of the bed, together with the parts A,

B, and M of the cabinet, substantially as speciied.

5. The combination of the head-piece O and jointed arms Q V with the sections K L aud the case, substantially as specied.

6. The combination of the roller S with holding devices, and the cords R with the jointed arms Q and head piece O, substantially as speciiied.

7. The detachable triangular pieces d. coinbined with the sections K L of the bed, substantially as specified.

8. The combination of the detachable pieces e with the section L and the sides of the part M of the cabinet, substantially as specified.
