To all whom t may concern Be it known that 1, PETER JAsIsKI, subject of the Emperorl of Austria-Hungary, residing at lVelland, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets-Beds, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cabinet beds.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a folding bed adapted when not in use to be completely inclosed from view within a cabinet presenting the appearance of the ordinary dresser.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wardrobe cabinet having a linen supply and clothing receiving portions Vand provided with a shiftably positioned bed inclosable therein.

A still further object is to provide a bed slidably mounted within a cabinet and swingingly arranged into and out of operative position and being provided with a mattress-retaining means when the bed is in its folded position within the cabinet.

l/Vith these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a cabinet of the present form and with the bed in its open operative position. Fig. 2 is a horizontal transverse sectional view through the cabinet with the bed in the same position as illustrated in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but with the bed and cabinet in their closed position. Fig. A is an enlarged sectional detail view of one of the roller bearing pivot connections for the bed. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail longitudinal sectional view of one of the foldable head posts of the bed, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the modified form of table employed with the device.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, a cabinet 10 is illustrated of substantially the usual form known as a wardrobe and Specification of Letters Patent.

having a sliding drawer at the bottom thereof and with two swinging front doors 12 for-closing the cabinet, while hooks 13 are suspended at opposite sides within the cabinet from the top 14 thereof, being adapted to receive clothing or other articles of wearing apparel.

A bed 15 is provided in connection with the cabinet and adapted to be received therein and has a foot frame 16, a mattress 17 being arranged upon the bed in the usual manner. Supporting legs 18y are arranged at the head of the bed, while a head frame 19 is pivoted by means of bolts 2O to the upper extensions 21 of the said legs. A retaining sleeve 22 is slidably mounted upon the said extensions 21 and the head frame at each side of the latter is provided with transverse pins 23 through the said eXtensions 21 which limit the downward movement of the sleeves. t will thus be seen that when the sleeves 22V are elevated, the head frame 19 may be readily folded inwardly for positioning a curved spring 24 carried thereby into engagement with the upper face of the mattress 17 for retaining the same in position when the device is closed as best illustrated in Fig. 3. When the sleeves 22 are in their lowermost position and seated upon the pins 23, the head frame will be retained in its operative vertical position as illustrated in Fig. 1.

Feet members 25 are pivotally connected by means of bolts 26 with foot frame 16 of the bed, the said feet 25 having rollers 27 journaled at their lower ends slidably received within parallel grooves 28 in the shelf of the cabinet 29 and above the aforementioned drawer 11. Retaining plates 30 overlie the roller carried portion 31 of the said feet 25 thus preventing a removal of the feet from the grooves 28 although allowing a free sliding movement of the said feet 25.

A table 32 is provided with supporting legs 33 adapted for reception within o ositely arranged sockets 34E of the bed 15 and whereby the table may be readily mounted upon the bed as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. vWhen not desired for use, the said table 12 is positionable at the rear of the drawer 11 and shelf 29 as illustrated in Fig. 3.

The complete operation of the device will now be apparent in that, with the bed in its folded position as illustrated in Fig. 3 and with the cabinet closedJ the portions 12 may be readily opened, and by grasping the bed 15, the same may be pulled outwardly upon the feet rollers 2T and then hinged outwardly and )downwardly upon the pivot bolts Q6 to its open position as shown in Fig. 1 and whereupon. the table 32 may be removed from. the receiving space 35 at the rear of the drawer 11 and may be positioned upon the bed 15, while the head 19 may be moved to its vertical position and the locking sleeves Q2 allowed to lower for seating upon the transverse pins 23. The bed is again folded and inclosed within the cabinet in substantially a reverse order of movement and whereupon a folding of the head frame 19 resiliently positions the spring 2e against the mattress by slightly flattening the same. It will be seen that when the bed is positioned within the cabinet, the foot frame 16 thereof is supportingly received upon the table 82 which latter is in a substantial alinement with the shelf 29.

modified form of table 36 is illustrated in Fig. G which is hinged to a plate 37 having legs 3S 'which are removably positioned within the afore-mentioned bed brackets 3e, while a pivoted strut 39 is carried by the table 3G and removably received within a socket 40 of the bedn it will thus be seen that a serviceable cabinet bed is provided which presents a neat appearance when closed and is readily shifted from its closed to its ppen position and vice versa, and at the same time affords receiving space for the bed linen and the clothing of the occupant.

While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what isl believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

wWhat I claim as new is A device of the class described comprising a cabinet adapted to inclose an rip-ending bed, a shelf' in the said cabinet, an up-ending bed having a rigid foot frame, pivoted feet at the foot of the said bed slidably en gaging the said shelf, and a removable table adapted for use with the bed at the rear of the said shelf, in alinement therewith and in flat engagement with the foot frame of the bed when in its folded position within the cabinet.
