{MM50/v FRANK BERNARD WERSEL, JR., OF MOUNT ,AUBUB/N, OHIO.
DUOFOI-D DAVENPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
Application filed February 25, 19.14. Serial No. 820,930.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK BERNARD lVERsEL, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of 2140 Maplewood Ave., Mount Auburn, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, (post-office address, Nos. 11041 to 1112 Kenner street, Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duofold Davenports; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to thc accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to duofold davenports and it has for its object the improvement in construction of such devices whereby they are simplified and rendered more efficient in action.
The novelty of my invention consists in the combination and sub-combination of the parts as will be hereinafter set forth and specifically pointed out in the claim.
ln the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device when the duofold davenport is unfolded and used as a bed. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing how one end can be elevated. Fig. 3 is an end view showing the du-ofold davenport folded up and used as a davenport. Fig. l is a front elevation of Fig. 3 with the balance removed to show the spring C. Fig. 5 is a sectional View showing how the screw eye holds the mattress to the top of the angle iron H.
Fig. 6 is a section on line 6 6 of Fig.
The frame work is divided into three sections. H represents the head end section, H2 the middle section and Hgfhe foot section. The head end section H and the foot section H3 are hinged to the middle section H2.. The foot section H3 has arms A attached to each end. These arms answer two purposes, they act as end arms when the duofold davenport is folded up and used as a davenport and as a support for the foot section H3 when it is unfolded and the device is used as a bed.
The head end section H is provided with a leg B to support the section when the device is opened lto be used as a bed. r1`he middle section H2 is supported on four legs D.
Vcomprising a fixed section with The head end section H is provided with a notched hook E which is used to hold the head section H in an inclined position. Attached to the leg B, and leg D are links F., which hold the leg B up against the section H, when it is raised up and forms the back of the duofold davenport. Hooks G are pivoted to head section H and are used for holding links F up by hooking onto the pins F2 on links F as shown in Fig. 3. The mattress I is attached to the head section H by means of' screw eyes I2, which pass through slots I3, and given a quarter turn which locks the mattress to the head section. The mattress has a pocket formed in the upper end through which a wooden strip `K is passed. This strip receives the screw eyes. This is clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 6. A spring C is attached to the upper and front part of the two legs D, D, extending from leg to leg, which is used as a flexible support for the front end of the mattress when the duofold davenport is used as a davenport.
T he operation of my duofold davenport is as follows: The hook Gr is unhooked from the link F and the head end section is swung back until the leg B rests on the floor, the mattress is folded back on to the head end section and the foot section swung forward until the arms H rest on the floor, when the mattress is spread out over the foot section when the duofold davenport will be in the form of a bed 'as shown in Fig. 1.
Having described my duofold davenport, what l claim is- The combination in a folding davenport ports, a folding front section pivoted to the front of the fixed section at the sides thereof` and a mattress extending over the fixed and folding sections, of a helical spring stretched horizontally between the upper ends of the supports below the mattress for the purpose of supporting the mattress when the sections are folded.
