IMPROVEMENT IN .BRl-'\C2ELETS.A
Specification forming part ofLetters Patent No. 139,888, dated June l17, 1873; application filed Februar;r 19, 1873.
` To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SANFORD W. GRANT, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a ce1'- tain new and useful Improvement in Bracelets; andI do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1 is a side view ofthebracelet closed. Fig. 2 represents the same when unclosed. Fig. 3 is a view in section. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show parts to be referred to hereafter.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of bracelets which are provided with a spring applied to span the joint when the two halves of the bracelet m'eet, as a substitute for the usual hinge-connection 5 and it consists in so combining the said spring with the halves of the bracelet that the joint shall be rrn instead of loose, and the abutting ends of the face-plates of the two halves be kept always in close contact.
In the said drawings, S S is a bow-shaped spring, bent at a. The members of this spring, a S and S', are inserted in the hollow space existing between thefront face-plate and the back lining of the two members, A A', of the bracelet, respectively, and such spring is soldered at or near its ends to either the front plate or the back lining, as is most convenient. y
The abutting ends `of the two parts of the bracelet A A. are each closed by an end plate, b, Figs. 4, 5, and 6, with the exception of a central rectangular opening or mortise, c, just` large enough for the spring S to pass through. These end plates I call iieldpieces, and the side edges of the mortises ride on the surface of the spring when the bracelet opens and shuts,'and prevents that thacking-joint, which Witnesses:
