WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT (Druten JOHN PALMER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HARVEY MILLER, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LCKS FOR DRAWERS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,273, dated January 6, 1874; application hd December 6, 1873.
To all whom it may concern: p
Be it known that I, J oHN PALMER, of Gineinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specication, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing` is a representation of a plan view of my lock. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective, and Fig. 5 a front, view of thel same. A
This invention has relation to locks which are especially designed for the drawers of sewingmachine cases. It consists of a semi-cylindrical frame terminated at both ends in circular plates, in combination with a flanged bolt-plate and a cam for actuating the bolt, these parts being connected together by the key-post, whereby a very simple, cheap, and easily-applied lock is obtained, as will be hereinafter explained'.
'I'he following is a description of my improvement.
In the annexed drawings, A represents the frame of the lock, which consists of a semi-cylindrical portion, terminated at both ends by circular portions a a, cast in one piece with a rectangular hole through one end for receiving the bolt. B represents a at rectangular bolt-plate, having flanges b formed on three sides, and a bolt, E, on one end. This plate B, with its bolt, slides on the flat side of the portion A, and is moved by means of an oval cam, G, acting alternately against the end it, and it also passes loosely through the plat-e i B and semi-cylindrical portion of the frame A,
and is attached thereto by spreading its end, as shown at c, Figs. 2 and 3.
When the bolt .is shot, as shown in Fig. 5, the upper portion of the cam O bears against the side ilange b of the plate B, in which position the bolt is securely held, in consequence of the longest axis being inclined towardysaid ilange b, on one side of a plane, intersecting the axis of the frame A longitudinally.
This lock is applied to a drawer by simply boring a hole into the edge thereof, and forcing the frame A into the hole, so that the perforated end of this frame is flush with the edge of the drawer. A small hole is then bored in the drawer, at right angles to the hole for the y key-post D, all constructed as described and y,
shown.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN PALMER. Witnesses:
Rontr. EsPEY, R. G. YOUG.
