Description

J. M. GURLESS.
Baggage-Checks.
N0.141,205, PatentedJuly 29,1873.
fnuemli-r' Magda UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
JOHN M. OURLESS, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAGGAGE-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,205, dated July 29, 1873; application filed January 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. OURLEss, residing in Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Baggage-Check, of which the following is a specification In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved baggage-check. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, and Fig. 3 a transverse vertical, section of the same.
In the several figures identical parts are marked by corresponding letters of reference.
To enable others to make and use my invention,I will proceed to describe it.
This invention relates to an improved baggage-chcck; and it consists of constructing or forming the back thereof with lateral flanges and an upper and lower transverse slot, and the front with an interlocking projection or flange, and, also with a transverse slot, the two parts being locked or fastened together by passing the said projection through the lower one of the slots of the front part and a swivel or button, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
1n the drawing, A refers to the back of the check, which is a metallic plate, having the .transverse slots a a-one disposed at its upper and the other at its lower endand the lateral flanges a a. A refers to the front plate of the check, the lower end of which is constructed with an interlocking projection or flange, a which in shape is angular, or, in other words, bent downward and then outward, while its upper end is supplied with a transverse slot, a This plate has an opening, a, through which the printed slip or card may be viewed. To fasten or look the two parts together, to confine the label or printed for the purpose of preventing the label slipping out of the case, formed, as above stated, laterally. A strap, 0, for connecting the check to the desired article, is clamped down in the slot (1. at one end, and then passed through the upper slot at of the back plate A.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The baggage-check composed of the back and front plates A A, the former having the lateral flanges a a, a button, and the slots a a, and the latter the interlocking flange or projection a, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 18th day of January, 1873, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN M. OUBLESS.
