Description

J. ALLBEE.
Harness Buckles.
No. 145,270. Patena-ednec.9,1a13.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
JOHN ALLBEE, OF SQUAW GROVE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,270, dated December 9, 1873; application filed February 1, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, JOHN ALLBEE, of Squaw Grove, in the county of De Kalb and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and eX- ,act description thereof, reference being had to y hame-tugs, or traces at varying distances from the collar; and to this end the nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a double-loop buckle with pins for the attachment of the vertical strap and trace7 and of a wedge or key with serrated anges to fasten them in said buckle, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this speciiication, and which represents a perspective View of the buckle in position, with the strap and trace, as well as the buckle and keywedge, detached.
A represents the trace, and B a vertical strap extending down from the back-pad, and to be attached or coupled to the trace. C represents a metallic plate, of substantially the form shown in the drawing, and provided in the center of or near the front edge with a pin, e, to fit in one of a series of holes in the trace A. The plate has also in the center, at or near the upper edge, a pin, m, to it in one of a series of holes in the vertical strap B. This strap B passes through two metallic loops, f j', formed on or attached to the plate O.
The tra-ce A is placed nearest tothe plate C, and fills the space between the loops ff, after` which the strap B is passed through the loops on the outside or in front of the trace, and helps to keep it in place, both being placed on their respect-ive pins c and m.
O represents a key-wedge, provided with toothed or serrated side flanges, which is inserted, as shown, through the upper loop, f, on the outside or in front of the strap B, and, when pressed down, is fastened by the teeth or serrations catching on said loop, thus holding the strap B and trace A irmly together.
By removing the key-wedge O, the back,- strap B mayk be easily adjusted forward or backward on the trace, and the trace adjusted up or down on the back-strap, according to the size of the horse, and, when adjusted properly, the key-wedge O is again inserted.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rlhe plate O, provided with pins e m and loops fj', in combination with the key-wedge O, having serrated or toothed side flanges, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
JOHN ALLBEE.
