M. F. ANDERSON & W. H. WILCOX.
HAME TUG. No. 328,557. Patented Oct. 20, 1885.
WITNESSES N. PEIERS. Pmwuo n m, Washington. 0.4;.
ATENT Fries.
MILLARD F. ANDERSON AND WILLIAM H. WILCOX, OF COLUMBIA CITY, INDIANA; SAID ANDERSON ASSIGNOR TO THE COLUMBIA CITY MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
HAME-TUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,557, dated October 20, 1885.
Application filed March 7, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we. MILLARD F. ANDER- SON and WILLIAM H. WrLooX, both residents of Columbia City, in the county of Whitley and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traces; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved hame-tug. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a crosssection, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the several parts of the tug detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Our invention has relation to hame-tugs, and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the trace hook or eye, which is hooked into the staple upon the hame, and the shanks of the said eye have perforations B at their ends, and are covered by a covering, C, of leather, having two flaps, D D, at its inner ends, which have perforations E corresponding to the perforations in the shanks of the eye.
F is a plate having its side edges bent at right angles to it to form flanges G, the inner sides of which flanges form shoulders H, and the ends of the plate have perforations I.
J is the box-loop, through which the billet of the trace is passed, the said trace being secured in the trace-buckle K, which is secured at its inner end in a loop, L, having perforations M in its ends.
N is a plate, of a width adapting it to fit inside of the boX-loop, and the said plate has perforations O'at its ends, which perforations are screw-threaded and register with the perforations in the ends of the flanged plate F, both plates being made of any suitable metal,
Serial No. 158,032. (No model.)
and the said perforations serve to receive two screws, P P, which pass through the perforations in the plates and through the perforations in the ends of the shanks of the tug-eye, and through the perforations in the ends of the loop securing the trace-buckle, the screws securing all the parts of the tug together. The box-loop rests with the edges of its inner side upon theshoulders of the flanges of the flanged plate, and the space thus formed between the inner side of the said plate and the inner side of the box-loop serves to receive one of the perforated shanks of the tug-eye and its leather flap, and to receive at the other end the one end of the loop securing the buckle. The other shank of the tug-eye and its covering and the other end of the buckle-securing loop rest inside the boX-loop and are held by the inner perforated plate, and the ends of the inner side of the box-loop have perforations Q Q for the passage of the unitingscrews.
It will thus be seen that all the strain in the tug is exerted upon the screws and upon the metallic plates, rendering the tug very strong and durable, and the metallic plates serve to retain the shape of the tug as well as to bear the strain upon the same.
Having thus described our invention, we claim- The combination, in a hame-tug, of the tugeye having its shanks perforated and having a suitable covering, the trace-buckle secured in a loop having perforated ends, the box-loop having the ends of its inner side perforated, the flanged plate having its ends perforated and having its flanges shouldered, the plate having the screw-threaded perforations at its ends, and the securing-screws, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereunto affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
MILLARD F. ANDERSON. \VILLIAM H. WILCOX.
