SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,313, dated February 16, 1886.

Be it known that 1, LA FAYETTE HARTSON,-

of Vyoming, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Vear Plate for Harness, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention consists in a wear-plate for harness, constructed with the usual keepers, a

drawings, forming part of this specification, in

which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 represents a view in perspective of a wear-plate for harness having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal czntral section through a wearplate, buckle, and strap, showing the drawstud in elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the upper end of aplate, showing the drawstud and a buckle in position to be inserted into a hook. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the buckle introduced into the hook and in position to introducea strap therein. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a buckle detached. Fig. 6 represents a side elevation of a buckle, a fragment of a strap, and a fragment of a plate, showing an end view of the draw-stud through-an opening in the strap and the end of the strap beneath the end of the hook to hold the buckle in position therein and to keep the end of the strap.

an opening in a strap, the end of which strap projects under the end of the hook D, to re tain the strap in position upon the draw-stud and plate, as shown in Fig. 2. This drawstud F is adjacent to and directly below the ends of the split hook D, so that when the strap is placed over the draw-stud F its end (of the required length) may be passed beneath the ends of the hook D to retain the buckle I in position therein, as shown in Fig. 2.

A strap is to be introduced into this wearplate as follows: The buckle I is first placed in the hook D, its tongue passing into the split part of the hook, as represented in Fig. 1. One end of the strap is then placed against the buckle to hold it in place in the hook. The opposite end of the strap is then passed between the keepers B B and drawn down, so

as to permit the draw-stud Fto enter an opening formed therein. The strap is thence passed around the wear-hook O, thence upward beneath a keeper, B, to form a loop, 0, thence downward through the buckle I, and the end thence passed beneath the keeper B, as represented in Fig. 2.

If desired, several draw-studs F may proj ect from the face of the plate A, to receive and hold a wider strap, if required.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a wear-plate for harness, the plate A, provided with the usual keepers, B, and wear hook O, and having a projecting draw-stud,

F, and hook D, arranged adjacent to each other, so that the end of the strap may be passed beneath the ends of the hook D to retain the buckle I in position therein and to keep the strap upon the draw-stud F, substantially as herein shown and described.
