G. W. FREEMAN.
Y HARNESS BOX LOOP. No. 355,310. Patented Jan. 4, 1887.
Q Mull UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
GEORGE W. FREEMAN, OF FRANKFORT, INDIANA.
-HARNESS BOX-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,310, dated January 4, 1887.
Application led August 20, 18x36. Serial No. 211,389.
To all whom, it may concern..-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frankfort, in the county of Clinton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Box-Loops; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexeddrawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of my invention, partly in section; Fig. 2, a transverse section taken on line y y of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a detail view in perspective ofthe box-loop.
The present invention has relation to that class of metal box-loops for blinders or other portions of harness having inwardly bent flanges for connecting it to the leather; and
the invention consists in constructing theseV flanges so that they will be on different horizontal planes, whereby the loop can be more etfectually and securely fastened to the leather and held in position without the aid of stitching or riveting, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the present instance I have shown my inf vention as used with a blinder-bridle, in order shape, and is ,formed upon its inner side with inwardly-bent iianges a, a space, b, being left between the flanges, as shown in Fig. 3. As will be seen by reference to Fig. 2, the flanges a are on different planes, one of said flanges being located above the leather from which f (No model.)
the blinder B is formed, and the opposite flange 4o extending under said leather, thereby more firmly securing the loop in place and preventing it from slipping out of position. Thisloop, which is made out of sheet metalLcan be put on after the blinder is stitched to the check-strap C, said strap having the usual buckles, D E, no stitching or riveting being necessary to secure the box-loop in place, the flanges thereof holding it in position, thereby adding to the neatness and appearance of the harness, and 5o making a perfect and durable connection be` tween it and the loop.
It' should be understood that metal boX- loops cannot successfully be put on a bridlecheck with a machine, and all bridles made by machinery require the boX loop to be connected by hand; but with aloop constructed in accordance with myinvention the check-strap can be stitched to the blinder and the loop at'- terward slipped on and into position, thereby materially reducing the cost of manufacture.
As previously stated, this box-loop is applicable to all classes of harness, and may be used on'bridles with or without blinders.
Having now fully described my invention, 65 what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A metal box-loop for harness having inwardly-extending flanges which are on different planes, substantially as and for the pur- 7o pose specified.
In testimony. that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE V.
FREEMAN.
