J. LETGHWORTH.
HAME ATTACHMENT. No. 849,892. Patented Sept. 28, 1886.
$74M, 697V m lwwr UNITED STATES ATENT. FFICEO JOSIAH LETGHYVORTH, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
HAME ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,892 dated September 28, 1886.
Application filed June 10, 1886. Serial No. 204,800.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSIAH LETOHWORTH, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of hames which are composed of a wooden body and metallic trimmings, and has for its object to strengthen the hame at the point where the draft is applied to the same.
My invention consists to that end of the improvements which will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a hame provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the hame.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the two figures.
A represents the wooden body of the hanie provided on its outer side with a metallic backstrap, a, in the usual manner.
B represents the draft-staple extending with its legs I) b transversely through the hamebody and back-strap.
0 represents the eyebolt, to which the breast-strap ring D is attached. The bolt 0 extends horizontally through the hame body from front to rear between the legs Z) of the staple and at right angles thereto. The bolt 0 is riveted over at the rear side of the hame, in the usual manner.
E represents a metallic clasp or shield extending around the front and sides of the hame from the back-strap a to the inner edge of the body A. The outer portion, 6, of the shield E, which rests against the back-strap a, is provided with two holes, f f, in which the outer portions of the legs I) of the staple are inserted. The inner portion of the shield E (No model.)
outer ends of the staple B on the inner and outer sides of the hame-body, and thereby relieves the body ofa great portion of the strain. It also serves to hold the breast-strap bolt 0, and prevent the latter from wearing out the opening in the hame-body in which it is seated. I
The shield E is produced at comparatively small expense and forms a neat and attractive trimming.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with the hame-body, of a shield, E, extending from the outer to the inner side of the body on the front thereof, and provided in its outer and inner portions with openings ff and g g, respectively, and a draft-staple seated with the outer and inner portions of its legs I) b in said openings, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the hame-body, of a shield, E, extending from the outer to the inner side of the body on the front thereof, and provided in its outer and inner portions with openings f f and g g, and in its front portion with an opening, h, a draft -staple seated with the outer and inner portions of its legs I) b in said openings ff and g g, and a breast-ring bolt, 0, seated in the opening h, substantially as set forth.
Witness my hand this 8th day of June. 1886.
JOSIAH LETGHWORTH.
