HAM E-FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,426, dated June 28, 1881.

(Model) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELI BOUCHEY, of Amesbury, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention relates to hame-faseners; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A and 13 represent the two parts of my improved harnefastener, each consisting of a slightlycurved plate, provided at its outer end with a hook or other suitable means, 0 G, for attachment to the hame. The plate A is provided at its inner end with two downward-projecting lugs, D D, between which is pivoted a lever-catch, E, the lower end of which is weighted, and provided with a thumb-piece, F, by which it may be operated. The upper end-or catch of the lever E projects upward into a slot, G, in plate A, which forms a stop, as shown.

The plate Bis provided with a series of slots,

H, in any one of which the lever-catch may be the drawings.

The front edges of the plates A and B are provided with downward-projectin g loops I I, in which the forefingers may be placed for the purpose of adjusting the fastening.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.

My improved hame-fastener is simple, and may be manufactured at a trifling cost. It is durable in all its parts, and easily adjusted or opened whenever required. Nor will it come undone when the team, as in going downhill, is required to hold back.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The hame-fastener composed of the plate A, slotted at G, and provided with the hook G, lugs D D, lever-catch E I and loop I, and plate B, having a series of transverse slots, H, and provided with the hook O and loop I, constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and set forth.
