Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL J. FUSEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM HENRY GROVE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,543, dated March 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, SAMUEL JAMES PUsEY, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Attachment for Sewing-Machine Tables, oi' which the following is a speeilication:
The object of my invention is to enable a case ot' drawers or other receptacles, and an extension leali, to be 'attached to the end ot' an ordinary sewin g-machine table, withoutspecial preparation of the latter; and this object I accomplish by combining' within a box or casing, A, arranged for attachment to the end of a sewing-machine table, B, a set of drawers or other receptacles, I), and an extension leaf, F, the latter when extended resting upon the top of the case, as shown in the perspective view ,Figure 1, of the drawing, and sliding back into the case at the rear of the drawers when not required for use, as shown in the sectional view, Fig. 2. The case A, with its drawers and extension lea-f, is made in the forni of a simple oblong box, which can be readily secured by screws or otherwise to the under side of either end of any ordinary sewing-machine table.
It may be provided with ordinary sliding drawers or with pivoted trays, such as described in my patent ot' May 2, 1871, and the space at the rear of these drawers or tra-ys is utilized for the reception ol the sliding extension leaf F, which, in the present instance, is adapted to inclined grooves or ways, b, in the opposite sides of the case, (see sectional views, Figs. 2 and 3.) The leal', when contained within the case, is concealed by a flap, H, hinged to the top of the case at d, the said dap, when turned to the position shown in Fig. 2, covering and concealing the opening through which the lea-i' slides, and forming a. continuation of the top of the table. When turned outward to the position shown ,in Figs. l and 3, the flap .H rests upon the hinged lid a ot" a receptacle, J, formed at the front ot' the case above the drawers, and thus aids in supporting the extended leaf, the latter being retained in position by lugs e at its rear end, which are adapted to recesses in the case beneath the end ot' the sewing-machine table.
l claim as my invention- 1. The combination, substantially as described, ot' a set of drawers or other receptacles, D, and a sliding extension leaf', F, with a case, A, adapted for attachment to the end of a sewing-machine table.
2. The sliding extension leaf F, adapted to the space within the case A, at the rear of the drawers, and to the top of the said case and end of the sewing-machine table, substantially as specified.
3. The combina-tion, with the said sliding extension leaf and case, of a hinged Bap, H, for the purpose specified.
4. The case A, constructed substantially as described, and having a receptacle, J, and lid a, as set forth. l ,y
In testimonywhereof I have signed my naine to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
