Sewing-Machine Tables.
Patented Jan. 14, 1873.'
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIGE.
HENRY LOTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,904, dated January 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY Lor11,ofPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvementin Sewing-Machine Tables, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a firm support for the extension leaf or flap of a sewing-machine table when elevated, and to enable it, when depressed, to be drawn in out of the way against the leg of the table.
I accomplish this object by hinging the extension-flap A (see perspective view, Figure 1, of the accompanying drawing) to a sliding frame, B, adapted to guides on the under side of the fixed sewing-machine table D, so that when the said frame is drawn outward the suspended flap can be turned over onto the same in order to form a continuation of the table, as shown in the front view, Fig. 2, and so that when the said frame is pushed inward, after lowering the leaf, the latter shall be caused to assume a position against the leg F of the table and entirely out of the way, as shown in the front View, Fig. 3.
The sliding frame B is relied on entirely for the support of the extension-flap; and in order that it may be sufficiently rigid I propose, in most cases, to construct it of metal bars connected together at either or both ends, as shown; but a simple flat board might be substituted for this skeleton frame.
The sliding movement of the supportingframe not only permits the extension-flap to be drawn in closely against the leg of the table when depressed, but it permits the recessed edge a of the said flap to be accurately fitted to the molding b at the end of the table, as seen in Fig. 2.
I claim as my invention The combination, substantially as described, with the fixed top D of a sewing-machine table, of a sliding frame, B, and an extensionflap, A, hinged to the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY LOTH.
