Specification forming pari of Letters Patent No. 135,827,1laied February l1, 1873.
,To alt whom yit may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY LoTH, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Sewing-Machine Stands or Tables, of Which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to retain the extension Hap of a sewing-machine stand or table in an elevated position, and to enable it when depressed to be drawn in out of the Way' against the supporting-leg of the table.
I attain this object by connecting the extension-leaf A (see inverted perspective View, Figure 1,) to the table B by double-jointed hinges D D, which enable the said leaf, when depressed, to be drawn inward out of the way againstthe leg E of the table, as shown in the front elevation, Fig. 2, and by attaching to the under side of the said table a sliding bolt, F, which, when drawn outward beneath the leaf, retains the latter in its elevated position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
By the employment of the double-hinged connections D I am enabled not only to draw back the leaf from the end of the table, as above described, but the inner edge a. of the leaf can be recessed to accord with the character of the molding b at the end of the table, to which the said leaf', when raised, can be snugly tted.
'This close fitting of the leaf to a molding is impossiblewith an ordinarysingle-jointed hinge situated at any distance back from the edge of the table, unless it be combined with a slide to permit the said leaf, when raised, to be drawn up closely to the molding; and when the slide is employed the joint is apt to be loose, an objection from which my invention is entirely free.
I claim as my invention- The combination, substantially as described, of double-jointed hinges D with the leaf A and table B of a sewing-machine, for the purposes set forth.
