IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.'
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,393, dated December 21, 1875; application filed November 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIS P. LAWRENCE, of Port Morris, in the county of Morris and State of New Jersey, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Table, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved ironin g-table as arranged for use, parts being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is an under side view-of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved ironing-table, simple in construction and convenient in use, being readily attached to a window-ledge or a table-top, and which may be compactly. folded for storage or trans"- portation.
The invention consists in the combination of the ear, the pivoted bar, the sliding block, the clamping screw, and the slotted plate, with the board and the hinged frame; and in the combination of the plate and the pivoted spring-latch with the end of the board. and with the flanged plate, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the board or top of the table, which is made of a convenient size and shape. The outer end of the board A is supported by a frame, B, to the side edges of the upper end of which are attached socket-plates G, to receive the pivots of the earsD attached to the under side of the said board A, so as to hinge the said frame to the said board. To the frame B, near its upper end, are attached ears. E, to which is pivoted the end of a short bar, F, the other end of which is pivoted to a grooved or T block, G, which is provided with a clam ping-screw, H, and slides in a slot in a plate, I, attached to the under side of the board A directly over a longitudinal groove in said board A.
By this construction, by loosening the screw H the frame B may be folded up along the under side of the board A, or adjusted in a vertical or an inclined position, as may be desired. 7
By adjusting the position of the frame B the outer end of the board A may be adjuste at any desired height. i
The lower side of the forward end of the board A is rabbeted to fit upon a windowledge or a table-top, and to it, at the shoulder of said rabbet, is attached a plate, J. The plate J has ears formed upon it, to which is pivoted a latch, K. The latch K is held forward by a spring, L, placed in a recess beneath the plate J. The latch K is designed to catch upon the flange of a plate, M, attached to the under side of the window-ledge or table-top, and which is designed to be made long, so that the ironing-table may be adjusted laterally, as may be desired.
Having thus described n1yinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the ear E, pivoted bar F, sliding block G, clamping-screw H, and slotted plate I, with the board A and the hinged frame B, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the plate J and the pivoted spring-latch K L, with the end of the board A, and with the flanged plate M, substantially as herein shown and described.
LEWIS P. LAWRENCE.
