Description

M. W. MURPHY.
Sewing-Machine Tables.
Patented May 12, I874.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIon.
MICHAEL w. MURPHY, on LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,775, dated May 12, 1874; application filed February 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it k1.own that I, MICHAEL WV. MURPHY, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Sewin g-Machine Table, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in supporting the hinged portion of the table by a section of the snbjacent case, as hereinafter described and po nted out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a plan of the machine, showing it in the working position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation taken on line 00 x of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
A is the'cloth-plate of the machine. B is the portion of the table to which the machine is attached. It is hinged to the stationary part 0 at D, so as to swing down between pendent end-plates E, of the inclosing-case, against the flanges F of said end plates. G is a portion of .the inclosing-case, hinged to a stationary part, H, so as to swing up under the swinging edge of part B, and support it for holding the machine in the working position. I is a sliding portion of the table, fitted in the stationary part to slide in and close the space out of which part B drops to make a cornplete table when the machine is inclosed.
It is provided with a look at J, to be secured to the part B when the machine is .in working position, when it draws out at the rear side, forming an extension, as shown in Fig. 1, and is supported by swinging brace L, which also projects under part M of B, and also aids to support it.
The part G has a slide, N, which catches with B when elevated. WVhen the machine is down in the box the part G rests on the flanges F.
The machineplate A is hinged to the part B at O, to be raised up for access to the under parts.
The improvement can be applied to all sew ing-machines. It is believed to be cheaper than the ordinary folding inclosing top. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the hinged support ing-part B, of hinged part G, the latter holding the former in position when the sewingmachine is in use, as and for the purposes specified.
MICHAEL WILLIAM MURPHY.
