Application June v26, 1946, serial No. 679,526 a claims. (ol. sii-112) The present invention relates to new anduseful "improvements in combined ironing boardsV and tables and more particularly to means for concealing the ironing board 'in the table when not in use.

An important object of the present invention is vto provide a combined table and ironing board 'in' which the table top is formed of hingedly connected sections with one of the sections stationary and the other section hinged thereto for swinging y into an open position on top of the stationary section toV provide a suitable surface on which Aclothes maybe stacked after being ironed.

f -A further object of the invention is to provide 'an ironing board mounted for swinging, raising or lowering movement into and out of position in a table or other piece of furniture with the ironing board at all times maintained in a horizontal position together with an adjustable stop for supporting the ironing board in a desired vertically adjusted position.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view with the table top closed and the ironing board concealed therein. I

Referring to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a table which includes the legs 9. an apron 1 connected to the u'ooer portion of the legs and on which the table too 8 is secured.

The table top includes a stationary section 9 2 l and a hinged section I0 hingedly connected to each other along one longitudinal edge by a conventional form of hinge members II whereby the section I0 of the top may swingupwardly into a position for resting on the stationary section 9 as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings to provide a at surface on which clothes vmay be placed.

A longitudinally extending partition I2 is suitably secured at its ends to the apron at the ends of the table and is positioned under the inner edge of the stationary top section 9 to support the'same against sagging movement.

The inner edge oi` the stationary section 9 is also provided with a dowel I 3- adapted to enter the hinged edge of the hinged section I0 of the top when in closed position to support the center of the hinged section against sagging.

A strip I4 is secured to the inside of the apron 1 at the front of the table and in which trunnions I5 at one end of a pair of bars I6 and I1 are journalled, the bars also having trunnions I8 at their opposite ends which are journalled in the partition |12.

Braces I9 and 20 are secured at their lower ends to the bars I6 and I1 respectively, the braces being of at construction and are provided with pins 2| projecting outwardly from each side at their upper ends and pivotally inserted in rails 22 secured to the underside of an ironing board 23 adjacent the longitudinal side edges thereof.

As shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawings, the braces I9 and 29 are secured to the ironing board in parallel relation with respect to each other to raise and lower the ironing board by a swinging movement of the braces on the trunnions of the bars I6 and I1.

When the braces are swung toward the right hand side of the table, the ironing board will be lowered into a position beneath the top 8 and when the braces are swung toward the left the ironing board will be raised to elevate the ironing board above the table top as shown in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings.

The ironing board is supported in its raised position by means of an adjustable stop block 24 positioned against the upper side of the brace I9 when the brace is moved in a direction to raise the ironing board, the stop block having a bolt 25 extending through a vertical slot 26 in the brace I9 and secured in adjusted position therein by a wing nut 21 threaded on the bolt. Accordingly, by sliding the stop block 24 upwardly or downwardly on the brace I9 until its upper edge engages the underside of the ironing board the latter may be secured in a desired vertically adjusted position.

In View of the foregoing description taken in commotion with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will bequite apparent to those skilled in this art. A= more detailed description isaccordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the sameis susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the' spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.'

I claim as my invention:

1. A combined table and I ironing board, said table including a top having a hinged portion, a pair of braces pivoted at one end to the table beneath said hinged portion of the top, an ironing board to the underside of which the other ends of the braces are pivoted for swinging vertically into and out of position in the table, a stop on that side of one ofthe braces disposed upwardly 'when the ironing board is raised to contact the underside of the ironing board andk to limit the angular movement of the ironing board relative to said braces when the ironing board is in raised position.

2. A combined table and ironing board, said table including a top having a hinged portion, a pair of braces pivoted' at one end to the table beneath said hinged portion of the top, an ironing board, to the underside of which the other ends of the braces are pivoted for swinging vertically into and out of position in the table, one of said braces having a longitudinal slot therein, a vertically extending stop positioned at one side of said one brace and carried thereby and disposed between the board and said one brace when the ironing board is in operative raised position, and attaching means for the stop adjustable in said slot, said stop limiting the angular movement o1' the ironing board relative to the braces.

3. The combination of a table having an elongated recess in the top thereof, an ironing board dimensioned to t within said recess when in one position, a pair of spaced similar braces pivoted to said ironing board and to said table, one of said braces having a longitudinal slot therein, a stop carried by said one brace on the side thereof adjacent the ironing board when the ironing board is in operative raised position, said stop being adjustable in said slot and said stop comprising means for limiting the angular movement` of the ironing board relative-to the braces.
