IMPROVEMENT IN OFFlCE-DESKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,390, dated September 26, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HAROOURT Mom, of the city of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Office-Desks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of office-desks in such a manner that the inside and contents may be closed and secured by a circular sectional cover or lid folding within itself in a recess provided at the top and sides of said desk.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a front view of my desk open, and Fig. 2 a transverse vertical section of the same closed. 7

A represents a desk or Writing-table, provided at the rear with an upright case, B, containing pigeon-holes, drawers, compartments for books, papers, 850., in any desired manner. At the top and sides of this case B are formed recesses to receive the folding cover 0. This cover is made in sections, closing like a fan within itself and into the recesses mentioned.

Heretofore this class of desks has been made with stationary circular grooved sides, which form a guide and support to the cover when being opened or closed. These stationary sides obstruct the light, and are otherwise inconvenient.

By my device all objections are overcome, as

'the cover folds together within itself, above the table, to and within a recess provided for the same.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the desk A, upright case or back B provided with a recess at its top and at each end, and the sectional fancase covering 0, the sections of which are secured within the end recesses of the back B at its base by pivots, as shown, so as to allow the fan-case to be folded within the recesses, or cover the'desk and front of the upright B, all substantially as set forth.
