Description

UNITEnI .STATE PASOHAL P. ELLIS, OF ST.LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES H. BUCK AND WILEY S. WRIGHT, OF- SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COOKING-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,728, dated November 7, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PASOHAL P. ELLIS, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a Folding Warming- (lloset for Cook-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved closet. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the closet. Fig. 3 shows the closet when folded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several iigures.
This invention relates to closets which are applicable to cooking-stoves, and which are designed for warming dishes and other articles. rlhe nature of my invention consists in hinging together the iive sides composing the warming-closet in such manner that they can be readily folded into a small compass for transportation, and put together for use without screws or bolts, as will be hereinafter explained.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand my invention, I will explain its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing, A, A, B, D, and E represent the five sides which form the improved warming-closet. The Atop and bottom side D and E have their front edges curved and adapted to t the rear end of a cooking-stove, so that a sufficiently-tight joint may be made between the closet and back plate of the stove. One of the vertical sides A has an opening through it, which is provided with a door, F, for affording access to the interior of the closet. The bottom plate E has its rear edge turned up at vright angles to it,as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and hinged at c to the back plate B of the. closet. This turned-up portion E will afford sufficient space to allow the plates A, B, and D to be folded together upon the plate E, as shown in Fig. 3. The plate A which is opposite the plate A having the door applied to it is folded beneath the plate E, thus reducing the several plates into a compact space. The plates A A are connected to the base-plate E by means of hinges at b b, and this plate E is connected to the raised portion E of the base-plate E by means of a hin gc, e, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The vertical edges 'of the back plate B are grooved to receive the edges of the side plates A A, which are turned inward, and the upper edges, of the side plates are grooved at a c, to receive the edges of the top plate D, which are turned downward, as shown in Figs. 1 and On the inner sides of the side plates A A and back plate B staples are secured; the former, h h, receive the hooked ends of crossties g g, which hold the side plates firmly together, and also serve in conjunction with ledges, which are held in place by the back staples h h', as supports for the open shelves G C.
It will be seen from the above description that while my warming-closet is a substantial and tight structure when erected and secured to a stove, it can be readily folded into a very small space for transportation.
I do not claim the broad invention of a sectional folding stove, nor a sectional folding attachment for stoves, as this is illustrated in the patent of D. E. Paris, June 16,1868, and of Stevens and Rockwell of March 25,1862, and in the rejected application of E. Bussey; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. rlhe warming-closet for cook-stoves, with its several sections constructed and connected together as described, so as to fold as represented in Fig. 3, and expand and be sustained as represented in Figs. 1 and 2, all as set forth.
2. The hinged portion E, in combination with the several sections of the Warming-closet, sub stantially as described and shown.
3. The combination of the ton gue-and-groove joints h and ties g with the several folding sections of the warming-closet, substantially in the manner described and shown.
PASGHAL P. ELLIS.
