To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY B. Rnrrnrro, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Wheeling, county of Ohio, and State of \Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Sheet-Metal Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates specifically to baking ovens, and it has for its primary object to provide a sheet metal oven which is adapted for domestic use in association with cooking stoves and which is readily collapsible and foldable into comparatively small compass for facilitating shipment and storage thereof.
A further object is to provide a device of the character mentioned which has a simple and inexpensive construction and which may be quickly collapsed and set up as oocasion requires without the employment of any special skill and with a minimum of effort.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the features of constructi-on and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter befully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention in its operative form;

Referring to said drawings, in which like designating characters distinguish like parts throughout the several views- 1 and 2 indicate the opposite end walls,
the front wall, 4 the rear wall, 5 the top, and 6 the bottom of a casing, each of said walls being of rectangular form. Each of said end walls 1 and 2 is permanently attached at its opposite lateral edges to the front wall 3 and the rear wall 4 through the intermediacy of a hinge joint, indicated generally by the numeral 7. The top wall 5 has its rear edge permanently attached to the upper edge of the rear wall 4 through a hinge joint 8, and the bottom 6 is attached through a similar joint 9 to the lower edge of the front wall 3.
A close-fitting internal joint 10 is formed between the bottom 6 and the rear wall 4, the rear edge portion of the former being first bent upward and then turned inward and doubled back upon itself to provide a flange 10 of double thickness, and then being bent upward to form a terminal flange 10", the latter being spaced away from said flange 10 to provide a channel 11 adapted for the close reception of the lower edge of the rear wall 4, as is clearly shown in Figs. 8 and 10. similar joint is provided between said bottom 6 and each of the end walls 1 and 2.. Thus, when said rear and end walls are properly seated with respect to said bot tom, they are firmly held in proper relation. A single bolt 12 directed through the double-flanged edge constituted by the flanges 10 and 10 at the rear edge of the bottom and through the intermediate seated edge portion of the rear wall serves to maintain the seated relation of said parts.
channel 13 formed between downwardly directed flanges 14 and 14 corresponding to the aforesaid flanges 10 and 10 is provided in the front edge portion of the top 5 for the reception of the upper edge of the front wall 3, the same forming a joint 14, as shown in Fig. 10. A similar joint is also provided between said top and each of the end walls 1 and 2, said joints cooperating with the joint 14 for firmly hold ing the top, front and end walls in fixed relation when said top is properly seated. A single bolt 15 directed through the flanges means, as a pair of locking elements 19, each of which comprises a stem 19 rotatably mounted. in the upper part of the door, and a bar 19 adapted to be carried by rotation of said stem into and out of interlocking relation to the inner face of the wall 3 above the door opening 16.
The door 18 carries means whereby it is rigidly supported when it occupies the open horizontal position shown in Fig. 2. Said means comprises a pair of rods 20 having pivotal connection at their upper ends with the door adjacent to the opposite lateral edges of the latter and having their lower ends directed through holes 21 provided therefor in the front wall 3 below the door. As herein shown, a laterally directed arm 20 formed at the upper end of each rod 20 is loosely received by a keeper plate 22 fixed to the door. The lower end portion 20 of said rod is arcuately curved and is movable inward and outward through the guide-hole 21 as the door is opened and closed, respectively. The rod is provided between the opposite end portions 20 and 20 thereof with reverse bends whereby is formed a horizontally disposed intermediate portion 20 which, in the said horizontal open position of the door, abuts against the front wall 3 for firmly supporting said door.
To collapse the oven into a form in which it will occupy a minimum of storage or shipping space, the bolts 12 and 15 are removed and the top and bottom walls swung back to approximately the positionsshown in Figs. '3 and a, whereupon the front, rear and end walls may be readily swung relatively on their hinge joints 7 to the flattenedout position shown in Fig. 5. Then, swinging the top back into underlying relation to the rear wall and the bottom back into overlying relation to the front wall, an approximately flat compact package is formed, as shown in Fig. 7
The bottom 6 may or may not have therein the rectangular opening 23, as preferred.
' What is claimed is- 1. A collapsible sheet-metal oven comprising front and rear walls, end walls hinged at their opposite lateral edges to said front and rear walls, a top hinged to said rear wall and having downturned front and lateral edge flanges providing seating channels for the reception of the upper edges of the front and end walls, respectively, a bottom hinged to said front wall and having upturned rear and lateral edge flanges providing seating channels for the rear and end walls, respectively, and means for releasably attaching said top and bottom to the front and rear walls, respectively.
2. A collapsible sheet-metal oven comprising side and end walls, the latter being hinged at their opposite lateral edges to the former, a top hinged to one of said side walls, a bottom hinged to the opposite side wall, said top and bottom being reversely disposed and each having its free edges double-flanged to provide seating channels in which the adjacent free edges of the end walls and the edge of the side opposite its hinge are received, and releasable means for rigidly attaching the top and bottom in seated relation to the edges received in the channels thereof.
3. A collapsible sheet-metal oven comprising front and rear walls, end walls hinged at their opposite lateral edges to said front and rear walls, a top hinged to said rear wall and having downturned front and lateral double-flanged edges providing seating channels for the upper edges of the front and end walls, removable means directed through the front edge flanges of said top and the seated edge of the front wall for releasably securing said parts in rigid seated relation, a bottom hinged to said "front wall and having upturned rear 7 and lateral double-flanged edges providing channels for the lower edges of the rear and end walls, and means directed through the rear edge flanges of the bottom and the seated edge of the rear wall for releasably securing said parts in rigid seated relation.
4. A collapsible sheet-metal oven comprising front and rear walls, end walls hinged at their opposite lateral edges to said front and rear walls, a top hinged to said rear wall, a bottom hinged to said front wall, double flanges formed on each of the free edges of said top and said bottom, said flanges being relatively spaced to provide channels within which the adjacent edges of the walls free therefrom seat for stabilizing said walls, and removable means securing said seated walls against displacement.
5. In a collapsible oven, end and side walls having hinged connections, top and bottom walls each of which is hinged at one edge to a side wall and has its free edges formed to interfit with the end walls and the opposite side wall, the front wall having therein a'door opening, a door hinged at its lower edge to said front wall and movable to and from closing relation'to said opening, and rods for supporting said door in horizontal open position, each rod having its upper end pivotally attached to said door and having its lower end arcuately curved and movable inward and outward through a hole in said front wall below said door as the latter is opened and closed, the upper and lower end portions of said rod being relatively offset to provide an intermediate horizontal portion adapted to be carried into abutting relation to said front wall when said door assumes its horizontal position.
