CABINET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,673, dated January 26, 1904.

To all whom it may concern..-

Be it known that I, IsAAo MASON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cabinet, of which the following is a fulL clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in cabinets, an object being to provide a cabinet of novel construction and particularly adapted for the convenient storage of cigars, beverages, and the like and so arranged that the top and front closures will swing together, whereby the contents of the cabinet may be reached both from the top and front, the said top closure serving as a support for articles when in either closed or open position.

I will describe a cabinet embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet embodying my invention, showing the same open. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof with the top indicated in dotted lines, and Fig.3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, 5 designates the cabinet, which is open at the front and top, the front opening being provided with a horizontally-swinging door 6, on the bottom of which near the outer edge is a caster 7, serving to support the door and the parts mounted thereon when in open position. The bottom 8 forms a shelf on which articles may be placed, and above the bottom is a shelf 9, which extends the full width and depth of the cabinet.

At the front portion of the cabinet at the top is a tray 10 for receiving articles, and attached to the front wall of this tray at the inner side is a rack 11 for tumblers or the like. Rearward of the back wall 12 of the tray are upward openings 13 14, communicating with a space the floor of which is formed by the partition or shelf 9, these upward openings being separated by a partition 15, extended from said rear wall of the tray to the rear wall of the cabinet. Bottles or other articles may be passed through these openings and rested on the shelf 9 or on boxes or other articles that may be placed thereon. Preferably one of the openings, here shown as the opening 14, is provided with a sliding cover 16, which when the top closure is open and the said cover 16 closed will hide from view any articles that may be placed in the cabinet below said cover.

The upper opening of the cabinet is designed to be closed by a top or closure 17 which is secured near its front-edge to the top of the door 6, so as to swing therewith. The opening movement of the door is limited by means of a slotted rod 18, pivotally connected at one end to a lug 19, attached to the inner side of the door, and a pin 20 on the under side of the tray extends through the slot in said rod.

In a cabinet made in accordance with my invention it is obvious that the part 17 will form a top for the cabinet when in closed position and will also form a support for articles when in its open position, as indicated in Fig. 1.

The usefulness and operation of the device are quite apparent, and therefore need not be further mentioned herein.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cabinet open at its front and top, a horizontally-swinging door for the front opening, and a closure for the top opening secured to said door whereby it may swing therewith.

2. A cabinet open at its front and top, a horizontally-swinging door for the front opening, a top closure having swinging connection with the door, and means for limiting the outward-swinging movement of the door.

3. A cabinet open at the front and top, a shelf in said cabinet, a tray in the upper portion of the cabinet, the said cabinet having upward and outward openings from the space below the tray, a cover for one of said openings, a horizontally-swinging door for the front opening, and a top closure attached to the door so as to swing therewith.

4:. A cabinet open at its front and top, a

shelf arranged in the cabinet above the bottom thereof, a tray in the upper front portion of the cabinet, a rack in said tray, said cabinet having upward and outward openings at 5 the rear of the tray, a sliding cover for one of said openings, a horizontally-swinging door for the front opening of the tray, a top closure attached to said door so as to swing therewith, a caster on the lower portion of the door, and means for limiting the outward- I0 swinging movement of the door.
