Description

Z. LIPOWSKL BOX.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 22,1915.
1,3 18,570. Patent ed Oct. 14,1919.
qlvi/tneooeoz gmm'ntoz m a 1 Hon m $64 ZYGMUN'I, LIPOWSKI, or HoBoKEn, 1mm.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZYGMUNT LIIOWSK'I, a subject of the Empire of Russia, and res1- dent of Hoboken,i n the county of Hudsonv and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a box, or morespecifically to the bottom or cover of a box. The complete box is provided with what is termed a neck, and which is notshown in accompanying drawings. The said neck is generally composed of a piece of card board which is fastened to the inner faces of the sides of the bottom of the box. The cover or bottom of the box preferably comprises a frame of card board with a binder of paper fastened thereto.
The accompanying drawings show the construction of the cover of the box, it being noted that the bottom portion of the box is of similar construction, and this cover I will hereinafter designate as a box.
Figure 1 represents an inside plan View of the frame of the box with the binder fastened to the outer face thereof; Fig. 2 shows a bottom view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows an enlarged end view of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is an enlarged section of Fig. 1 on the line 4, 4; Fig. 5 represents a plan view of the frame and binder partly in position with the head of the cover; Fig. 6 shows an enlarged partial top view and section of Fig. 5 on the line 6, 6; Fig. 7 shows a view similar to Fig. 5 with a further development in the manufacture of the box; Fig. 8 is-a rear View of Fig. 7 Fig. 9 represents a rear view of the box completed; Fig. 10 is a top plan view of Fig. 9 and Fig. 11 is an enlarged section through one of the corners of the box as on the line 11, 11 of Fig. 10.
To make the box a frame 20 with square ends 20 has formed therein rectangular cross grooves 21 on the inner surface thereof. To the other face of the frame 20 is fastened the binder 22 with an adhesive like glue. The said binder 22 at one end extends to the end of the frame 20 and at the, other end extends beyond the other end of said frame. The binder 22 is cut on the line 23 to form a binding flap 24. One edge of the binder p a ibnb was rat ent. Patented Oct. 14,1919.
Application filed July 22, 19-15.
Serial No. 41,257.
covers the outer portions of the transverse grooves 21. Next the frame and binder are bent into rectangular shape over a folding block which carries the head 30, the abuttingflap 24 is folded over the outer edge of the' frame 20 and secured to the inner face thereof and is also folded over and secured to the flap 25 on both its faces, at the other end of the frame 20, which has been located adjacent to the flap 24, as shown particularly in Fig. 7 When the flap 24 has been fastened in place there is secured a cover completely covering the frame 20 between the ends of the binder, leaving no uncovered portion of the frame between the accompanying ends of the binder. Finally the side portions 22 and 22 of the binder are folded over the side portions of the frame 20 and fastened to the head 30 to complete the box as indicated in Fig. 9. At the inside corners of the box the cross grooves 21 allow sharp corners to be formed with the inner faces of the frame 20. When the frame 20 is folded to its rectangular shape the cross section of each cross groove 21 takes the form of a quadrant of a circle with the longitudinal outer edges of each groove touching each other as indicated at 35 in Fig. 11 of the drawings. The binder 22 forms little folds 32 on the inner faces of the frame 20 adjacent to the grooves 21.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
In a box the combination of a frame with square ends, the square ends making a butt joint between the corners of the box, a binder fastened to the outer surface of the frame by an adhesive. the said binder at one end extending to the end of the frame and at the other end extending beyond the flap, the said binder folded over the outer edge of the frame from the end where it extends to the end of said frame to said out, the folded over portion fastened to the inside face of the frame, the said flap covering the butt joint and the whole space between county of New York and State of New York. this 14th day of July, A. D. 1915.
ZYGMUNT LIPOWSKI the ends of the binder, the said flap fastened to the inside face of the frame and forming a complete cover for the frame at said butt joint and a head Within the frame and main- 5 tained in place by said binder, the latter Witnesses:
being fastened to the head by an adhesive. A-CDE BONNEVILLE,
