PAPER BOX.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 24, 19:8.

WITNESSES: INVENTOR ATTORNEY PATENT FFTCE.
GEGBGE DIABIGND, IEILVVAUKEE, VJ'ISCONSIN.
PAPER BOX.
Application filed July 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE DIAMOND, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the followine is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in paper boxes, more particularly of that ornamental type adapted to contain candies.
Such boxes are of relatively strong construction and are usually provided with bottom edge portions projected outwardly of the walls. and with ornamental flaps. Hence the construction of such boxes has necessitated the use of a number of separate pieces in the formation thereof, and a consequent relatively great expenditure of labor in assembling and finishing the boxes.
It is in general the object of my invention to provide for the manufacture of boxes of the present character in a most ready and economical manner, and it is more particularly my obie t to provide a box of this character which may be formed from a single blank of material.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, my invention reside-s more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts, more fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a candy box embodying my invention, portions of the box being broken away to more clearly disclose the structure.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through one end portion of the box on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the blank from which the box is formed.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the improved box includes an outer bottom section 5 and from the edsres of this outer bottom section extend extension bottom sections 6, separated from section 5 fold lines and adapted to fold onto section 5, the dimensions of the section 5 being equal to the dimensions of the box chamber plus the widths of the extension bottom sections. Side wall sections 7 extend from the extension bottom sections 6, being separated Specification of Letters Patent.

therefrom by fold lines, and side flaps 8 extend from the sections 7 at their upper edp'es. Extending from the ends of the side wall sections 7 are securing strips 9 equal in width to the height of the wall sections. Extending from the end extension bottom sections 6 and separated therefrom by fold lines are outer end wall sections 10. to which are joined at their outer edges, inner end wall sections 11, the inner end wall sections havinp; valance flaps 12 projecting from their ends. Extendine from one of the inner end wall sections 11 is an inner bottom section 13 and of su h dimension as to fit between the extension bottom sections 6 when folded on the section 5.
In folding the box, the extension bottom sections 6 are folded inwardlv to lie on the outer bottom section 5. the end edoes of these sections 6 being beveled at anolcs of 45 whereb said edo'es coincide in folded position. The securing fla s 9 of the side walls 7 are then bent inwardly to lie at the inner faces of the outer wall sections 10 and the inner wall sections 11 are then bent around those flaps. with their attaching flaps 12 bent to eneaoge the inner faces of the side walls 7. the inner bottom se tion 13 lying against the section 5 in this fol ding movement. The flaps 8 are bent inwardly to provide the conventional ornamental arranorement, the edsres of the flaps beino scalloped in the present instance. although they may be of any conventional nature andmay be stamped or embossed throughout their surfaces.
It is noted that the parts of the blank are so arranged that all of the surfaces inwardly of the fold lines between the extension bottom sections 6 and side wall sections 7 are concealed in the formation of the box. These surfaces are all utilized for carrying paste to fasten the box together, and in applying this paste, the side walls 7 and flaps 8 are bent backwardlv and the box then run through a pasting machine to apply paste to all of the remaining surfaces. The parts are then folded to assume their approximate relations and the box is placed in a die whereby the parts are firmly and accurately set to produce a strong; and attractive box structure.
'Jhile I have shown and described a preferred form of blank, it is obvious that arious changes may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention. For instance, the flaps 12 may be eliminated without materially aflecting the strength of the box and various other changes may be made to meet different requirements of design.
Claim:
A box formed of a blank including a main bottom section, extension bottom sections extending from the edges of said main bottom section and having their ends beveled on lines intersecting the corners of the main bottom section, side wall sections extending from the side extension bottom sections. outer end Wall sections extending from the end extension. bottom sections, inner end Wall sections extending from the outer end wall sections, an inner bottom section extending from one of the inner end wall sections, said extension bottom sections being folded inwardly and glued to the main bottom sections to form the extension bottom projcctions of the box, flaps extending from the end of the said wall sections and inserted between the inner and outer wall section, said sections being glued together and the inner bottom section being glued to the main bottom section to cover the entire eX- panse of the main bottom section in conjunction with the said extension bottom sections, and flaps on the ends of the inner end Wall section glued to the side Wall sections.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing It have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in. the county of Milwaukee and State of ll isconsin.
GEORGE DIAMOND.
