This invention relates to knock-down, set-up separate confining or backing strips, such as strips l of my'said patent, whereby great economy of manufacture is accomplishedr while at the same time a stronger box bottom is obtained. f Inv the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a perspective viewof a box embodying my invention;
Figure 2, a top planview of the box bottom blank in partially finished condition before the 2g panels 4 have been pasted or glued to the panels Figure 11, a perspective fragmentaryview of one corner of the bottom C finished and in an intermediate stage oi erection;
Figure 4, a perspective view of the bottom C in finished condition fully erected; Figure 5, a sectional view on line 5' 5 of Fig. 7, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 6, a sectional view on the line 8-6 of Fig. 7, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 7, a sectional view on the 'line 'L -1 of Fig. 5, looking in the direction of the arrows, the corner laps 8 and l beingshown in edge elevation; Figure 8, a plan view of the body blank prior to final pasting; Figure 9, a top plan "view of the body B in finished condition with the' top bracing and spreadingy flanges E' extending straight in continuation, 1 and with the lower bracing and spreading flanges E folded at right-angles inward intol operative interengaging position and with the locking tongues F extending laterally and upwai-diy at an inclination; f
5 Figure 1o, apian view of the blank for nip A in partially finished condition;
Figure 11, a fragmentary perspective view of a lower corner of the body B;
Figure 12, a fragmentary sectional view, broken away, on line i2-i2 of Fig. 1, looking in the di'` y rection of the arrows; and
the arrows.
'g3 Referring now in' detail w the drawings. A
(GUI. 229-23) designates the top; B the body and C the bottom, the top or cover A being removable and replaceable on the upper end of the body B andthe bottom C being, in assembled relation,locked to -the lower end of thebody'B so as.- to be in- I separable therefrom without mutilation and without the use of special tools.
The bodyr B may be formed of a suitable cardboard or 'paste-board blank vertically scored at suitable points with foldlines and providedwith I6 -an adhesive-coated lap G for pasting it together i: in the form of a square or othersuitable form a,
body provided at its top with preferably integral inwardly folding mitredend spacing and bracing iian'ges E and at its lower end with similar 1E' iianges E having the same functions, there being provided preferably integral laterally outwardly upwardly inclined locking' tongues F, all constructed, arranged and functioning as set forth and described in the patent above referred to.
The bottom C will be ofsuch size and shape as to just snugly receive between the inner faces of its lip or vflange the lower 'end of the body B; said lip being of such height as to extend upward along the body B beyond the upper ends of the 25 locking tongues F and being formed with 'tonguereceiving sockets or openings 9 in the panels 'd and-tongue-passage' openings 9' in the panels 3. Preferably adhesive, as indicated by stipplmg Ain Fig. 2, will be applied Vto the outer faces of 3@ the panels I, whichare to be folded inward along a scored line a and 1 pasted to the inner faces of the panels- 2 respectively. The inner end flaps or.. laps 8 cut free from outer end iiaps or laps le respectively on lines I2 respectively in alignment 35 with the respective fold lines a but extending from the respective end portions of the respec `tive vpanels l fold over inward with the respec- 4lines b to overlie 'the end flaps or laps 8 and I0 to lie `substantially parallel to, and closelyadjacent' to, their respective cooperating panels l", but are not pasted l.to the latter. The panels i and 2 Afold upward Tat,right-angles to the upper face'oi' the bottom C along scorelines c. VThe end naps or iapsfand i@ fold inward at rightangles to the panels zalong scored lines d to lie between panels i and, there being a free slight vrelative sliding movement between said iaps or laps i! and i@ 'ot each end of the respective pasted panels 2 and 4i incident to auch folding due toV said aps or laps 8 and I0 being free from each the lower faces of the respective laps 8 and acother whereby they may have relative movement cordngly said holes or openings 9 may extend for their full lengths to compensate for the two up beyond the lower portions of the laps 8 or may thicknesses of material and to avoiddrawing, not, this being rather immaterial so long as they 5 puckering or buckling. As thus disposed between are of suchsize and so positioned as to permit 5 said panels I and 3 the respective end laps IU the passage'of the tongues F through the respec- Will extend across the respective openings 9' tive panels 3 to operatively engage the lower edge lengthwise of the panels 3 and j held between the opposing faces of.the end portions o! the respective pairs of relatively movable y panels and extending endwise across said openings, the inner laps -having abrupt lower edge faces to be engaged by the cooperating upper free end locking faces of said cooperating tongues respectively extending through the respective opening's and said inner laps being so rmly engaged by the outer laps as to prevent the lateral outward movement oi' the upper ends .of the respective tongues beyond the respective lower edge faces of the respective inner laps.
2. A paper board receptacle comprising a body having one end portion provided with resilient upwardly and outwardly presented locking tongues having abrupt free end locking faces, in combination with a bottom having an integral lip receivingsaid end portion and-comprising a lip portion, and inner corner lap', an outer corner lap, a pair oi' inner and outer panels, the inner panel'being foldable inwardly and downwardly to lie substantially parallel to vthe outer panel, the inner panel being formed with an opening," and said laps folding at right-angles to said lip portion to lie parallel to each other with a relative sliding movement and lying behind said opening and between and being firmly frictionaily gripped and held by the opposed faces of said panels, and
the inner lap being. formed with an abrupt lower edge face to be engaged by one of said locking tongues and being so iirmly engaged -by the outer lap as tofprevent the lateral outward movement of the upper end of the cooperating locking tongue beyondthe lower edge of said innerlap.
