BOX.
appiicationnied vJanuary t, 1920. serial Noraiaisa.
Be it known that l, FREDERICK Pf 1Woon, 434 South Grove Avenue, Oak Park, Illinois, a citizen ofthe United States, residing `in `@ak Park, insthe county of Cook `and State of lllinois, have invented anew and `useful improvement in Boxes, of whichtlie follow- .This invention relates ingeneral to fibre boxes and more particularly to boxes adapted to the packaging of crackers and the like, although it will `be manifest` that y it has othervaluable uses. .y l .1'
A. principal object of my invention l*is the provision of a fibre cracker can or the like of strong and sturdy construction and without appreciable waste in the manufacture.
Another important object of my invention is the improvement in construction of con` tainers of this character.` i i Onthe drawing, y
Figure 1 is a partial perspective 4view of a box embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the body blank;`
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the blank; i
Fig. 4 is a front to back section through the box;
Fig. 5 is a transversevertical section; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail section through a flap fastener at the top of the body.
The box shown on the drawing for the purpose `of illustratingmy present invention comprises `a bod 11 and a cover 12. The `blank from which the body is 4made is shown in Fig. 2. rlhis blank consists of a sheet scored on lines of fold 13 to set ofi'7 four walls 14, all of the same dimension, and an edge fiap 15. A top line of fold 16 and a bottom line of fold 17 are also provided and the lines of fold 13 are .cut fromthe edges of the box to the lines of fold 16 and 17. The material above the line of fold 16 is narrow and the folding and cutting forms narrow flaps 18. Wider flaps 19 are provided at the `bottom and these aps are preferably of a width onehalf that of the box. i
` The body is constructed by bending on the lines of fold 13, securing the flap 15 to the oppositeedge of the blank then bending up the flap 19 to close the bottom and gluing or `otherwise securing these fiaps together. The overlapping ends of the flaps 18 may be and preferably are stapled together by front `flaps 19 each half the sectional area andfreaimstaples land 27. `will^be readily manifest thatA the Vbottom ofthe 'box` is of double thickness :by reason ofthe` four y Thecover 12 is,` ormaybeimade yfrom the blank shown in Fig. F3. f- This consists of a sheet provided with a centralbody part 22 set off -byl side `.linesof `fold 2li-and end or front andback` linesi24; Beyond thelines- 23` are provided side flaps 25 and Aa front flap 26` anda back or end` flapf27 are.` priovided `beyond the lines 24. Slots 28 separate `the -ends of the `flaps` `25 from.. the flaps 26 and 27, these ends vextending outto tliefedges yof theblanks. The'front flap 26iis subs`tantially twice as wide as the side fla s 25 and is provided with a central line o fold 29. The rear flap 27 is similarly constructed having a central line of fold 31. ln constructing the cover the side flaps 25 are bent up on thelines of fold 23 and the protruding endsare bent in towards the body 22.
1t will be manifest that there is little or no waste in forming the blanksand thecon-` struction of the complete package is simple, economical and the resulting box strong and durable.
It is thought thatV the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventionor sacrificing all of its material advantages, the
of the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
1.1Aibre box for crackers and the like, comprising a body made of a sheet folded on lines defining the vertical edges of'the box and having flaps forming a bottom of double thickness and top flaps overlying and fastened together at adjacent ends and forming a continuous tying connection all around the box arranged inwardly of the body, and a cover arranged to fit down around and over said overlying top flaps.
fibre box for crackers and the like, comprising a body and a cover therefor, said cover being formed of asheet cut and folded on 4horizontal lines of fold to provide front I backend side flaps, the ends of said flaps at the hinge side of the cover extending in and .being secured to the inner side of the back flap, the back flap extending beyond the bent in ends of the side flap and provided therebeyond with a hinge line of fold, the part of saidvr iaprbeyond said hinge line being secured-to the back of the box.
.8. A libre box for crackers andthe like,
comprising a body and a cover therefor, said cover being formed of. a sheet cut and folded on side lines of fold to provide side fiaps, all four of the ends of said flaps ex I with a hinge line of fold, the part of said Hap beyond said hinge line extending up alongside and being secured to the back of the box.
4e. A libre box for crackers and the like comprising a bottom, front back and side vertical integral Walls folded on vertical corner lines, and a cover, cach of said walls having a top Hap folded inwardly, the ends of said aps being secured together to forni a continuous connection entirely around the box Which ties the front and back walls together and the side Walls together. and a cover enclosing the top portions of said Walls and resting on said continuous connection.
