To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, JosnPH W. WOOL- WINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, Shelby county, and State of Tennessee, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Cartons, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention consists in an improved construction of cartons designed especially for packing spices and other powdered products and adapted not only for containing said products during the transportation, display and sale thereof, but also during the process of using, the carton being constructed so that the contents may be sifted therefrom Without opening any part of the package other than a small portion covering one end through which the sifting or discharge is made, all of which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part nereof, and on which similar characters indicate similar parts,

Said blank is of pasteboard or other suitable material and cTomprisesseveral sections withcreasesor scores formed between them as is usual. The several sections are designated by the reference numerals 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22. Greases are formed along lines 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28. I

into a rectangular structure. The flap 14: on sectlon 13 overlaps, preferably on the inside,
the outside edge of section 10 and is secured thereto by glue or other adhesive. Sections 15 and 17 are then folded one over the other and sections 16 and 18 folded, in turn, on the outside of sections 15 and 17, thus forming a bottom to the carton composed of four thicknesses'of the pasteboard and these'are secured by interposing glue or other suitable adhesive.
This form of carton is very rigid, durable and convenient for use. The contents are deposited therein before the top of the carton"eomposed of sections 19, 20, 21 and 22 is closed. When it is desired to use the contents it is only necessary to lift the flap 29, which is severed from the section 20' on three sides and left in piece with section 20 at a point along line 30, which forms a hinge for the purpose. This flap is cut at the same time the blank is cut by an appropriate die. The contents can be readily sifted through the perforations in section 22 and then pro tected by closing the flap 29, which will stay closed by reason of its close fit in the recess formed therefor.

A carton for containing powdered material and adapted both'for storage and using purposes composed of a single sheet of material cut and scored to form the sides, bottom and top of the carton'when folded to position, the top of said carton comprising sections on opposite sides adapted to lap one upon-the other and formed with centrally registering openings, and other sections my hand and seal at Memphis, Tennessee, adapted to fold at right angles over said this 18th day of April, A.
