COLLAR-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 9', 1919.
Application filed June 6, 1919. Serial No. 302,290.
1 b all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WV. BARGER, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Danville, in the county oi Vermilion and State of Illinois, have made certain new and useful Improven'ients in Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in collar buttons, and has for its object to provide a construction to facilitate the insertion of the head of the button in the button-hole of a collar, and of a neck band. In doing this I form the head in a circular disk-like shape, brought approximately to an edge at its periphery, thus relieving the necessity of spreading the hole to any considerable extent when inserting the button, and also reducing the thickness of the head of the collar-button to such'an extent as to greatly reduce the friction in slipping the neck-tie along the button head.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions, as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an end View, and,
Fig. 2 is a side view embodying my invention.
This button is shown enlarged many times for purposes of illustration.
The button has a base A, a shank B, and a head C. The base A and. the shank B may be of ordinary construction and they may be produced in any of the ordinary Ways practised in the making of buttons of this class.
The head C is quite thin and is brought at its periphery practically to a knife edge, and is made very thin, so that its insertion through the button-hole of a neck band and through the button-hole or holes in a collar, is rendered very easy, as it does not involve any considerable spreading of the buttonhole in effecting such insertion.
It' will also be noticed that the neck-tie may readily slide across the head of the button, especially when the latter is used at the back of the collar, this resulting from the thin knife-like peripheral edge and the flat form of the button head, which causes the latter to enter button-holes with the greatest ease.
Manifestly, in the use of the invention the shank may be made of different lengths to accommodate different thicknesses of folds of collar and collar bands.
The construction is simple,-easily operated, and effectively serves the purpose for which it is designed.
The head of the button is circular, and its edge is uniform and thin and knife-like throughout, so that it readily enters the button-hole at any point in its periphery.
I claim A collar button having a shank and a head approximately circular in outline and lying in a plane approximately at a right angle to the axis of the shank with its peripheral edge throughout thin and knife-like, as and for the purposes set forth.
JOHN W. BARGER.
