IMPROVEMENT IN SHiRTi.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 13%,357, dated August 20, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Shirts, invented by JOHN A, PETERS, of Jordanville, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York.
This invention relates to the construction of dress-shirts for gentlemens wear; and consists in a device for keeping thebosom smooth and taking up the slack cloth around thewaist, and in the use of the patterns shown, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a front view of a shirt made according to my invention. Fig.2 represents the form or shape of the pattern of the front of the shirt. Fig. 3 is the form of the pattern of the back of the shirt. Fig. trepresents the sleeve-pattern.

'ihe bod of ashirt is-necessaril 'made loose I to allow it to be puton over the shoulders, and
beneath the arms, which are buttoned one to the other, as seen at O, which draws the back and the front of the shirt together, so as to bring the surplus cloth between the two straps under the arms, as seen in the drawing. By the use of the patterns shown I set the sleeves further in front and out the neck opening to fit the neck of the wearer and obtain many other desirable advantages. The front pattern is marked D, and is shown in Fig. 2 with part of the bosom attached. E is the pattern for the back of the shirt, and F is the pattern for the sleeve. G is the shirt-bosom, which, when attached to a shirt made from the patterns shown, will always keep smooth and look tidy.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The shirt A, with the straps B B attached, substantiall y as and for the purposes described.
